couple things noted while ...

... updating the BE Tracker this morning:
https://villanova.n.rivals.com/news/2015-16-big-east-tracker

SHU and Wisconsin are back in the Top 50 of the RPI - giving quality/key wins to Marquette, Georgetown, Villanova and others.

The projected BET now has Creighton and Providence playing in the Quarters with the winner facing the winner of the Villanova against DePaul/Marquette game.
If the bracket held to form and the Cats kept winning the games would be a repeat of last year's BET run for 'Nova. Marquette - Providence - Xavier ... still way early for that but - thought it was interesting.

No BE games until Tuesday night now:
Feb 16 - 7:00 PM CREIGHTON at Butler

A win for Creighton opens the possibility that they get 11 BE wins.
A Butler loss and they will head to the Pavilion next Saturday for Villanova Senior Night at 6-8 in BE play and desperate for a win to stay in reach of a possible .500 BE record. Though they could win @Gtown and then beat SHU and Marquette at home to finish 9-9 in the case where they lose both to Creighton and 'Nova ... they really need the win against Creighton to maximize their chances down the stretch.

It will be interesting to see how Georgetown finishes. Sitting at 7-6 ... three straight home games coming but they are against SHU, X, and Butler. A road trip to Marquette (which will probably have nothing to play for in that game) and then closing the season with a game @ 'Nova. The Hoyas didn't fold when Providence punched them in the mouth yesterday but if SHU gets them and X gets a revenge win against them next Saturday - would they bounce back again from 7-8 to win 2 of the last 3?

It could play out similar to the end of the 2014 season where Georgetown needed a win at Villanova in the last game of the regular season to get to 9-9 and maintain NCAA aspirations and the Cats drilled them by 16 to send the Hoyas to the NIT and finish 16-2 themselves.

Guess we can't criticize nova even a bit on this board

So I will ask a serious question. How in the world is SJU winless in the big east. I usually am not one to give too much credit to opponents when I feel it is more our execution/play that may be an issue but yesterday was a combo. I think despite us absolutely dominating the paint offensively and executing on several occasions, SJU really hung tough, did well on the o board, executed their offense well at times and really gave us a game for much of it. So they played X very tough twic,e, played us tough twice for large pits of the game. How have they not been able to win a big east game?

your thoughts on how SJU defended Hart

interested in seeing what people think about how St. John's guarded Josh Hart.

this was his first non-double figure scoring game and they held him to 1-6 shooting ... he did make three trips to the FT line.

This was his 6th game held to an ORtg under 100.
The Johnnies did it twice.
Providence did it in the last WFC game
prior to that it happened against Marquette, vs. Oklahoma, and Stanford.

SJU game is over.....sub-par effort.....

So now, tell me how are Cats going to execute and survive on N. Broad Street on Wed.? Will Jay run the offense through Daniel.........will there be a barrage of threes........Have only seem bits and pieces of the Owls, but, they have some decent wins.....UConn twice, SMU.....Don't you think TU would love to knock Nova off and out of #1.......??? They still need help getting a bid........

Big East Today (Sat, 1/13)

Gonna be freezing this weekend - stay inside and watch some BE basketball. Great slate on Saturday leading up to the Cats at night:

Georgetown @ Providence - 12 pm
Too strong to say it's a must win for the Friars, but they need to right the ship fast. GTown needs a quality win badly as Butler is surging. Big game for both teams. I'll take PC in a close one though, at home.

Xavier @ Butler - 2:30 pm
X doesn't need it, but again here's a team that could use a win to stabilize things before the tournament. X is looking at a top 2-3 seed if they can get a few wins together. Butler is coming together at the right time -- coming off a huge win on the road at Seton Hall the other night. I don't see a line on this one, but my guess is that it is close to a pick, maybe Bulldogs a slight favorite. Give me the Bulldogs at home in a really close game.

Creighton @ Marquette - 8 pm
Probably an elimination game for two teams on the outside looking in. I don't think the loser can do enough down the stretch to earn a bid. Both with big wins last week, but both need more. Marquette wins at home behind their length and home crowd to march on.
