Jalen Brunson

This by no means is anything of bashing Jalen just a couple of thoughts:
1) I think Jalen has clearly struggled not having the ball in his hands, rightfully so. This is a player who has had the ball in his hands since 8th grade. Clearly the adjustment by playing off the ball has not gone as smoothly as thought, but I want to give him credit for making the move and willingness to adjust for the team.
2) I think Jalen in the off season needs to work on cutting his weight, take of ten pounds. I think he is playing a little to heavy, none of his fault, but that usually happens to freshman. Get him a full summer of being in the weight room and conditioning. I think a guard of his height and his game needs to be light and quicker. If he gets down to 190 or around there I think it will benefit him on both ends.
3) He has a unique ability to get into the mid range and pull up, I like that aspect of his game. Jalen would benefit from adding a floater. He is not a guard who is going to sky, I think Steve T said he might have reached his ceiling as an athlete, which I think there could be some validity to that. All creative guards have a floater to go to when deep in the lane. Chris Paul and Steve Nash were excellent at that. Even Curry has one.
4) He is a very good player who is finding his way. I think he will have an excellent career at Nova. It is part of being a freshman and finding his way, all players have to do it and go through an adjustment peroid. Next year will be interesting to see when the ball is back into his hands more often when Arch is gone!

Difference in the game

We played the type of game Providence wanted to play, rather than forcing Providence to play the type of game we wanted to play. When you lose an OT game you can always go back and direct a play here or a play there. I will not bash a college player but something is not right with Booth. It does not appear to be physical, he appears to have zero confidence right now. The staff needs to try and and get it back. Last year he seemed to play with a tremendous amount of it. Finally, I do not know who said it but very early in the season someone mentioned how we would really miss Hilliard this year when it came to inbounding the ball. Remember how big of an issue this used to be but the problem went away for the last few seasons. This is one of Jay's blind spots. All head coaches have them. A lose can be VERY BENEFICIAL. We have a full week to learn from this and practice. We were very fortunate to win at Seton Hall. The last two games we have played some sloppy ball. I have confidence this team will regroup and start to play fundamentally sound ball.

Next year

I was thinking about Providence next year as I watched 2 guys dominate. You have to think Bentil will come out and be a 1st round pick. Why would he come back without Dunn getting him the ball and after having such a great year. With those 2 gone, that team will struggle next year. I can't imagine them being in top 6. Bentil could find himself a top 20 pick. Leadiing the league in scoring and rebounds well. Not sure he is ready defensively. If he returns, PC will be top 3 or 4 with us, Xavier and Seton Hall maybe

THAT WONT BE HAPPENING AGAIN FOR A LONG TIME........IM NOT DOWN ON THE TEAM AT ALL....I JUST BELIEVE THERE ARE ABOUT NINETY OTHER TEAMS....WITH NOT MUCH SEPERATING THEM........AND US....

3 Bad TO's

*Qualifier* Not bashing the team *End Qualifier*

We had 3 horrendous TO's in this game. Jalen's inbound was the obvious one but we had 2 other complete throw aways. I am blanking on who threw them...I think Booth had one and maybe Ochefu the other? 3 bonehead TO's with average defensive pressure at best. Hesitant to call them unforced TO's but about as close as you get.

Plays like that need to be reduced to zero come NCAA tournament time. We are not Kentucky where our youthful mistakes are outweighed by our talent. Fundamental basketball plays win games like this.

3 more shots with our Effective FG% is the difference in this game.

This team just can't shoot

I know we debate all kinds of other weaknesses of this team, real and imagined, but nothing's has hurt us worse than our poor shooting. I have been waiting for us the "regress to the mean" because I think we should be shooting better than we are, but it isn't happening. This team just can't shoot and without better shooting we need to be realistic about our tourney hopes and expectations. I don't know why we can't the ball to go in, we are getting good looks most of the time.

If I were to make an instructional video ....

on palming the basketball (or better yet on how not to), Kris Dunn would be my leading man. Now, this is not sour grapes over a loss, because I do think Kris is a great player, however he palms the basketball on almost every possession! I have seen the likes of Tiny Archilbald, Pearl Washington, Allen Iverson, etc. do amazing things with the dribble without palming, so it bothers me that the call is not made.

Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law

January 2016

Dear Alumni, Parents and Friends:

I am incredibly pleased to announce that the Villanova University School of Law has received a transformative $25 million gift from Charles "Chuck" Widger, Esq., '73 VLS, founder and executive chairman of Brinker Capital, as part of our comprehensive capital campaign, For the Greater Great: The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change.

In honor of this historic commitment--the largest gift ever to the Law School and the second-largest gift in the University's history--the School will be named the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law. Chuck shares our vision for a law school that is forward-thinking, while remaining true to its mission and history. His remarkable gift will continue Villanova Law's upward trajectory and further solidify its reputation as a leader and innovator in legal education.

It is only fitting that our Law School--the first named college or school at the University--now carries the name of an individual as dedicated to Villanova as Chuck Widger. An active alumnus, Chuck serves as a member of the Campaign Executive Committee and chair of the School of Law Campaign Committee. His belief in the goals of this campaign--cultivating academic innovation, enhancing financial aid and student opportunities, and securing future growth of the endowment--directly informed his gift.

Chuck's remarkable career--first as a lawyer, and then as the founder and CEO of the leading investment firm Brinker Capital--stands as a testament to the success of Villanova alumni. The exceptional achievements of our students, faculty, staff and alumni are propelling our University to new levels of excellence and recognition. The energy on and off campus is infectious, with more Villanovans than ever inspired to participate and to give back. To date, the Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change has raised more than $500 million toward our $600 million goal.

This is a special moment for the Law School and our entire University. Such generous support signals the strength of the Villanova experience and an unwavering confidence in its future. I am truly grateful to Chuck for his continued belief in our institution and in our community.

Please join me in thanking Chuck for his extraordinary generosity.

Sincerely,

providence presser quotes

Villanova Head Coach Jay Wright Opening Statement
"That's a great college basketball game to be a part of. It was great. Even though a lot of people couldn't get down. I thought the crowd was great. We got beat by a team that played better tonight. We've won a few games on the road where we didn't play our best and found a way to win. Tonight we didn't play our best but a lot of it was because (Providence) did. Two outstanding players made big plays but they also made the players around them better. Their other guys made some great plays too."

Wright on the extra day between games due to weather
"It probably helped us. We played a late game Wednesday night. We got back really late Wednesday night and would have only had one day of practice. We were really well prepared coming into this game and we still couldn't stop Bentil and Dunn."

Wright on guarding Kris Dunn

"
We tried everything. We doubled him some, we put different guys on him and we tried zone. Everything. He just controlled the game. Bentil did the same inside and on the glass."

Wright on three point shooting against Providence's zone defense"We didn't get to the foul line a alot because we settled. You can get off threes against a zone. They're packing it in and not playing man to man. You've got to pass up some threes sometimes to get into the lane and make plays and we didn't do that. We took the first three every time. We've got to be smart enough to mix it up.

Arcidiacono on game tying three pointer to force overtime

"
It's a play we run every day in practice. End of game situations where we are down three points. We executed it. I caught it looking to shoot, knowing we needed a three, took the shot and it went in."

Hart on what he took from today's game"We've got to get a lot better. We've got to get back to the basics. Focus on defending. Focus on rebounding. We can't get complacent with where we are."

VUSports Pick 'Em Standings (thru Prov)

The smartest person in the room right now is EdMcM (the only game he missed was @Georgetown)

Everyone has Villanova winning at St. John's on Sunday so there will be no movement in the standings there. Only CWertz picked Villanova to lose at home to Creighton. So the list will not change much over the next 2 games:
