Some interesting stats

So it's Friday and I just got into work and I'm a little bored, so wanted to share some interesting stats...

  • This past year, 22% of our shot attempts were considered a transition bucket (scoring within the first 10 seconds of the shot clock). Of those shots, 48.5% of the shots were at the rim and 40% of shots were from 3. Of those shots, we shot 68% from 2 and 37.4 from 3. (Those numbers say we score more from 2 than from 3 in these situations)
  • The 22% of transition opportunities is low...Georgetown had 23.4%. UNC was the highest I saw at around 30%.
  • In transition situations from a steal, we shoot an astonishing 74.4% when we take the ball to the rim, which is over 68% of the time, which is pretty darn good.
  • Of our 3 losses, statistically speaking, the Georgetown game was our worst and it wasn't even close. Only one player (Arch) had an Offensive Rating above his Defensive rating.
  • I mentioned this in another thread, but our three highest usage guys (Hillard, Pinkston, Ennis) are no longer with the team.
  • Of those three guys, 2 of them (Ennis, Hillard) had the lowest percentage of Free Throw Attempts / Field Goal Attempts (around 27%) but Pinkston had a percentage of around 88%. (JVP shot 188 FT's and shot 225 FG's)
  • Again from those three guys, from a perspective of win shares, we lose the guys in 3rd place (Hillard) 5th place (JVP) and 8th place (Ennis)
  • Again from our three guys we need to replace, from an offense rating perspective in conference games, we lose guys in 5th, 7th and 8th place (Hillard, JVP, Ennis) However, from a defensive rating perspective, we lose our number 2 (Hillard) 3 (Pinkston) and 4 (Ennis)
  • Ochefu is a very good offensive rebounder...but he's not very good at getting a rebound and going straight up. He grabs 14% of all offensive rebounds (which was 36th best in the nation) but he only had 24 offensive putbacks. And that's not baskets, that's just total shots as he only shot roughly 48% on those shots. Only 15% of his shots at the rim were putbacks, which is also low.
  • That being said, Ochefu is good at the tap back or throwing an outlet pass to set back up the offense and he does grab a lot of offensive rebounds.
  • Josh and Kris had 100% of their 3 point baskets from an assist, meaning they did not create their own shot for a 3.
  • Archi was so bad in the non-conference but so good in the conference, at least offensively. His overall Offense Rating was 119, but in conference, he was the best offensive player on our team with a 128 rating, just ahead of Jenkins and Ochefu.

OT : Rumor of huge get for Nova Lacrosse

Rumor going around that the Froccaro brothers, Jake and Joey are headed to Nova.

This is big news cause they are both total studs and I believe Joey is leaving Princeton to head to Nova. And I believe Jake was supposed to go to Princeton this fall. Their older brother Jeff was a monster at Princeton and took down Nova in 2012 at their highest ranking - I think he scored 6 goals on the Cats.

Now to make matters more confusing their SISTER - is like #4 on Villanova's all time scoring list - her name ? Jackie.

Jeff, Jackie, Joey, Jake - I may have screwed up Jake and joeys situations - but you get the idea.

Anyway - supposedly this is a huge coup for Corrado - and these 2 will have a HUGE impact immediately.

Interesting News About Howie & Diane's Giving To VU

On June 9th the University put out a media release about the Long's million dollar gift to football. The media piece was very informative. This info was news to me - In 1994 the Long's made an impactful gift to VU , establishing the Elizabeth Mullen Endowment in memory of his grandmother (who raised Howie ,he called her Ma). The endowed fund supports a football scholarship for a student from an inner-city school in the Boston area. This I never knew. I am very close to Bob Capone but he said not a word. No coach ever mentioned this. Reading the release today was the first I learned of this gift. Again this week I find myself saying thanks to the Long's.

Williamsz @ World Relays

Was flipping thru the channels last night and Universal Sports had the IAAF World Relays Championships from Bahamas.

Jordy Williamsz ran an 800 leg for the Aussies in the DMR. He ran pretty well, my guess would be about a 1:46/7 split. He stuck his nose right in there with the guys from USA and Kenya. Aussies ended up 4th with the US 1st and Kenyans 2nd. Fun meet to watch. They ran 4x1,4x2, 4x4, 4x8 and DMR for both men and women. USA won 7 of the 10 races with 2 of the losses coming from botched handoffs by both the men and women in the 4x200 and the Jamaican women beating our women in the 4x100. Be interested to see how Williamsz bounces back this week at the conf champ. Tough couple of weeks for him. 3 races at Penns then jumps on a plane and runs the next w/e in the Bahamas.

Very impressive showing by the USA men and women in the 4x400, 800 and DMR. USA women almost broke 8 minutes in the 4x800. They would have broken 8 if the last 2 legs had been pushed at all. They had 20-30 meter leads the entire way. Channelle Price, originally from Easton, PA ran a leg on the 4x800.

Stanley Cup Finals

A couple thoughts, I am surprised that Tampa was able to win Game 3 last night. I didn't see much of them during the regular season, and I totally under-rated them. With Kane, Hossa, and Toews, I didn't think TB could hang, but Hedman is a flat out superstar.

And as a CoP Flyers fan, I am bummed at how big the talent gap is between them and these two teams. These two teams have also shown me that there is less of a premium on the elite goalie, and now it's all about speed, speed, speed.

Belmont

Some great racing tomorrow at Belmont. 5 graded stakes races with 4 races $1M+. With rain in the forecast early tomorrow, I may forego the beach and hit up Monmouth from some live/simulcast racing. Although, with the Twin Spires app, I could sit on the beach with some beers and get the best of both worlds.

In the 6th (Brooklyn Inv.) I'm a sucker for dual entries so I'm going with an exacta of Pletcher's horses 1/1A with V.E. Day

I like Promise Me Silver in the Acorn (7th)

The Met Mile (9th) has Bayern and Tonalist as the likely favorites with Pants on Fire as my exata pair with last year's Belmont winner Tonalist. Wicked Strong and Kobe's Back could make the most hated exacta pair of the day.

I like Finnegans Wake on the turf in The Manhattan (10th)

I will likely make some stupid long shot bet in the Belmont Stakes depending on how much I have left in my account around 6:45 tomorrow. Madefromlucky will be involved in any of my action.

Rayhad, what are your thoughts?
