College Hoops Analytics Application

Hi folks,

Last year I've shared a college hoops application that showcases analytics for multiple years of division-1 basketball. I've recently made some improvements to the app. Some of these include:

Data for both men's and women's divisions for every game, team, and playerNew visualizations to show trends over timeAdditional metrics to highlight the best players
You can download the application here:

Please note: It requires Qlik's business intelligence software to run. You can download a free demo version on qlik.com.

Florida Gators last year - Is that's us this year?

I was texting with my cousin and we were trying to identify recent dominant 1 seeds without sure fire pros. Look no further than the Florida Gators of 2013-2014. Here is the lowdown of that team in case you don't recall:

36-3 record; 18-0 in SEC; won SEC tournament 61-60 over Kentucky #1 overall seed and advanced to the Final 4 where they succumbed to UConn 65-53 Not an NBA player on that roster
Their top players were Patric Young (undersized big like JVP playing in Turkey), Scottie Wilbekin (lead guard playing in Athens) and the other players are mostly still there on a team that went 16-17 this year. I actually think we are more talented than that team, with more weapons and play just as good of defense.

I don't recall many in the media world dismissing them like they dismiss us now, but this team lacked the sure fire NBA talent and still advance to the F4. One could make the argument that college basketball is stronger at the top this year, but nevertheless, they were #1 in the country. Thought this was a good comparison. It absolutely can be done without lock NBA players.

Our region

I think we can take everyone in our region. That said, the three teams I would rather not face are:

1) Michigan State-I personally think Izzo is the best coach in the country (although Jay is catching up very fast!)

2) Northern Iowa - They are a very good team-however, having attended enough NCAA games I know if we end up playing them the average basketball fans in the crowd will be rooting for UNI because their name indicates they are a major underdog when in reality they are one of the top teams in the country this year.

3) Providence- After Friday nights game I do not want to be faced with having to beat them for a fourth time this year.

Again I'm not afraid of anyone with this team but I would prefer to stay away from these teams if possible!

On the dais...

...just re-watched the post-game and Darrun's interview on the dais...two things stood out...uh, I take that back three...ONE - O'Neill is a fool, TWO - Darrun handled O'Neill's awkwardly-posed question about whether he was upset that he did not win the Big East POY extremely well - perfectly and sincerely actually, THREE - loved Darrun's comment that "we have SIX more games"...chills...

StubHub Selling Session #1 Question

So I took the advice of the board (thinking Ohio St may end up and demand tix) and bought the full 3 session pack right before the brackets were unveiled. Paid $315 total for lower level corner tix and they are now going for $700 (given Tx and ND) so good advice. Tix are being overnighted to me for Tue delivery, but I want to sell Session 1. Can they be converted to eDelivery or do I need to quickly turnaround and ship or meet someone in Pittsburgh early Thur prior to Session 1?

Eric

If tomorrow we are ranked #2, like we should be, we that be Villanova's highest ever ranking? I know we have never been ranked #1, not sure if/when we were ever #2. I do think we have never gone into the NCAA as anything higher than #3.
