High Ball Screen

I've mentioned this all season. Does jay have a different rule for DO? He almost always sags off and leaves someone alone to get screened. Then the ball handler has a full head of steam going to the basket. Infuriating. He's quick enough to force the ball handler out and then retreat. I don't get it. They killed us all night.

Donte Update #2: Sallies Wins State Title

Proud graduate of Sallies. Thought this deserved another thread. Donte carried Sallies to its second straight state title, the first two in school history. He finished with 23 points.

I know I started another thread, but feel a state title deserves special recognition.

Donte carried an undermanned Sallies team (1.5 legit very good players including Donte as the whole number) to the title.

It helped that the favorite (Sanford) lost in the semis, but Donte carried his club.

Donte scored 13 of his 23 in 4Q, including two threes.

Team Rankings Bracketology

With all the talk of no respect from the talking heads (which I quite frankly don't care about, but it seems to have gotten a few people's undies in a wad), here's some statistics driven thoughts that put the Cats at #2 on the S-Curve.

Odds on getting a #1 seed

1. UK - 99%
2. VU - 79% (Basically the same odds to win tonight)
3. Arizona - 75% (They are an 89% favorite to win tonight)
4. Wisconsin - 51%
5. Virginia - 46%
6. Duke - 46%

No one else realistically in the hunt

Win tonight and you're a #1 seed, lose tonight you aren't.

Team Rankings

Talley-"Two or Three Years"

Last night at the Maxwell Club dinner Coach was saying "Our new football building is coming on line in the fall.I want to see that thru . I want to make sure that gets up and running in a good way. Probably the next two or three years would be enough for me.We have a great staff at Villanova now that's been with me for a while. Hopefully there would be some kind of transition there so we can kind of keep the beat going." Coach T received his third Tri-State Coach of The Year Award.
Coach also said "It's a great time to be at Villanova. Jay is having a great run. We had a great season(football) Maybe Jay 's going to make a run at the national championship. They're the real deal".
BTW Coach is 71 years young.

We need our hard hats tonight.

Reynolds was T'd up last night and he was very chippy in our two games. When I think of X I remember the brawl they had with Cincy a few years ago. We need another big game from DO tonight. Stainbrook has played really well lately, but his defense is weak. Jay said last night we needed that type of game last night and I agree with him. After the 1st NCAA game we will be in constantly tight games. Last night was a gut check and we passed. This time of year it doesn't matter how pretty the game is, its all about survival.

Philly media take on Nova

Since I live in NY I don't see Philly papers and only occasionally read them online. Thing that struck me today in Bob Ford's article in The Inquirer is the negative take on Nova. He emphasized picking out our weaknesses over our strengths and suggested that we probably will be tripped up in the tourney because of such weaknesses. In the NY Post on the other hand, the assessment was that we showed our greatness in finding a way to win on an off night and how it might help us going forward. I here on this board about anti Nova sentiment from the Philly press but was still surprised to see such a pessimistic take from the local paper.

Humor for today...

Watching Francessa from yesterday (yes I have no life) on dvr. Some guy named Nino (you can't make this up) calls up and asks mike "who ya got tonight Villanova - Providence?" After a few seconds of awkward banter between he and Mike, Nino says he has a source inside the Villanova team that told him Villanova was going to throw the game to get a 2 seed so we don't have to play Arizona out west. I don't have to tell you how bad Mikey crushed him.... Pretty funny. Mike says "I'll give ya Jay Wrights numba and you can call him"

Changes in the Rules

The lacrosse coach at West Genesse has long been one
of the the best coaches in the nation. He said the face offs should
be eliminated since the players who do them are generally not among the
most athletic players on a team and usually come out after face-offs. The other has been
discussed for years, and that is a shot clock.

Even though I have lived up here for fifty two years, I have seen about five complete
games and those were VU on the tube. I have noticed some similarity between
strategy hoops and lacrosse, but it is not enough to get me interested in taking
up another sport to follow. If the second change has been discussed for years, either
let the thread die or comment. It makes some sense to me.

Providence

If they had a shooter they would be a Final 4 contender. They have great length and size, Dunn is a lottery pick, they just don't have a guy to fear from 3. Cooley is a good coach and they could make an elite 8 with the right matchups. What really hurts them is that Dunn has missed 2 straight years, but tonight you saw why he will be a potential all-star as long as he stays healthy. He's not as explosive as Westbrook but the comparison is a good one. He plays at a different level and when he gets to the NBA and is playing with better athletes he will blossom.

JVP question....

Not an x and o guys,so help me out here. Obviously his jump shot needs to be put to bed,but why is he not getting any offensive touches?...is he not working hard enough to get open....do we just not set up plays to get him the ball...is the opposition guarding him that well........?...just a question, not a criticism,he had some early games where he was unstoppable.
