Brexit

Whole thing feels like Syracuse leaving the Big East. Doubt it's good for either ..
Short term there may be inflation and some job losses. But, in the long run the British economy will be stronger.

Trumo really playing both sides of the coin here. Paraphrasing:

"Brexit is great. People voted, they are taking back their country. We're seeing same thing in America."

5 minutes later

"Brexit is sort of a disaster. And frankly. it's Obama's fault. If he had done his job we could've avoided this whole mess."

It's just too much. It's gotten to a breaking point!! All these people immigrating from territories that we formerly occupied, raped and plundered!! I can't take it anymore!

You are using "we" pretty loosely there. Are you on the team?

It's a sad day. I dreamed of a world of no races, one world culture and Walmarts in every corner of the globe.

I'm not only disappointed by missing out on the homogenous end goal but also the vibrant diversity that will precede it. I would like see Tex-Mex / New-Guinea-cannibal fusion restaurants. Will the pygmies of Cameroon ever learn the benefits of circumcision?

The CNN commentary on it was hilarious. You would think it was the end of the world. Of course, they blamed to whole thing on the people for being racists, homophobes, bigots, xenophobes, etc.

On a more serious note, Zuhdi Jasser who is a moderate Muslim and Muslim scholar gave one of the best explanations I've ever heard about Muslim integration into other societies. He said the West is missing the point. The problem according to him is with Muslims who adhere to strict Sheria Law. Understandably, he pointed out that Muslims who believe women who are to be treated like chattel and gays should be killed can/will never be assimilated into moderate homogeneous societies. That certainly makes sense.

I don't watch the news channels but I'm not surprised. Patronizing liberals think it's immoral to value a national or cultural identity unless you are part of an "oppressed" culture.

Just for starters, the 27 billion in taxes to the EU will no longer be paid by GB citizens. That would be 2700 pounds for EVERY man, woman and child in the country if it were evenly divided. Just imagine what that will do for consumption, investment and savings over time.

This comment on the financial times seemed pretty spot on.

Not to me. It looks like a load of bullshit to me. The people have spoken and they want out. That's how democracy works. Maybe they value national self-determination and cultural identity over opportunities to work abroad.

Everything is a trade off but there is a middle ground. You can enter trade agreements, etc. without having to create a United European Socialist Republic.

Anarchy, aren't you the guy who advocates for localized government and small, local businesses? Maybe I am wrong (I'm not great at remembering who posts what).

True. There is a middle ground which can be achieved with work. It's unknown how that will shake out but probably better than how my isolationist perception of it foresees it. The ideal is what scares me when globalization has proven to be a generally positive force for the past few hundred years. When has isolationism turned out well?

Snottie - Not looking for an argument. But, I do have a question. If globalization has been "a generally positive force," how do you explain the worldwide waves of immigrants trying to get out of their native countries?

Are you referring to the $350m GBP that was being paid each in taxes to the EU that will go into the NHS instead?

Isolationism in a general sense has created a world of rich and diverse cultures throughout the world. Before the age of colonialism there was nothing but isolationism and society progressed well. Our greatest accomplishments in art and culture were accomplished before our efforts at world dominion. Foreign travel is interesting because of diverse cultures and individual differences. Despite the lies, globalism is against diversity, not for it.

I think the better question is where has globalization gotten us. That's the new world. Is our involvement in wars in Asia advancing our nation? Do we benefit by functioning as world police? Are we really so arrogant to think that our systems of government and economics are so superior that they need to be imposed worldwide?

Seriously? Can you expand here? I have a problem with the entire post, but this is really something.

I am - but I fail to see the correlation. I have not read anywhere near enough to form an guess on this - that's why I am asking. Generally when you shrink markets, it's not great for an economy. I can't imagine this won't trigger more defection by other countries - but from what i read, Germany and the UK had it very well in the EU. Maybe I'm wrong.

Seems to have been a fairly historic backfire by David Cameron...

I mean it didn't work out as he expected, but the anti EU sentiment wasn't going anywhere. Him giving a voice to the people is not really the issue with the entire thing.

This whole thing is just human nature. History clearly shows that as governments grow and take more and more power from the people, the people will rise up and take the power back peacefully as in this case or violently in countless other cases in the past. People are willing to take the chance that things will get better because, in their minds, they can't get much worse. The same thing is happening here which is what gave rise to Trump whether or not he will be the vehicle for change. If he isn't, you can be sure there will be another populist candidate in 2020.

UK is a net creditor to the EU of 8.8bn. Please don't lie.

It's Saturday night. You need to go out to a bar and pick up a chick and get laid Jake. You're becoming as obsessed as NC94!
I'm just asking for answers to your posts, and I've been overly polite. You are just a loon at this point. Honestly, you've really lost it.

It's also like 9pm. No one goes out for like an hour or two.

Why can't you just answer straightforward questions pertaining to stuff you post? If you're not feeling well, just stop posting for a bit and get better. If you're up for it, then post here. But you're trying to spew utter shit everywhere and then get offended when people try to converse with you. I respect what you're going through, but you know what you're getting here, so don't expect everyone to pat you on the back for dumb shit.

I'm just tired of you nit picking every fking thing I post! I've always gotten along with you but you've become very tedious wanting to constantly split hairs. It's really annoying! Take that for what it's worth, Jake. No malice intended. I'll respond when and if I want. Otherwise, pleas quit hammering.
