Games

Because most Villanova people think they are better than everyone else.
Simply a bunch of loosers.
These people are ivy league wanna be's who are thouroughly self-impressed
and regularly sit on their brains.

I often wondered the same thing. I've traveled from NY to go to several games. I've sat in freezing weather to watch the team play. I'll continue to do so because this is really a great team and I only wish it there were more active fans. It's not good for the player's morale.

Glad you new fans realize what a great asset the Villanova football team is. They have put on a great show throughout the Coach Talley era. I attended many games prior to relocating to the west coast in 1997. Invite your friends and family to join you next season. With Walter Payton award winner QB John Robertson directing the show it should be great.

Why so few fans at games???
First of all, the back bone of college football fans has to start with the students.....Nova has only 6500 undergrads, so, if they all attended, it would only be 6500. The alums are not locally located, some are, but, the attraction of the CAA teams isn't enough to pack the stadium. Drawing the general public doesn't work as they are primarily NFL fans and in particular Eagle fans.

And, Nova is not alone....Temple, who has in excess of 30,000 undergrads, is a 1A program and plays in an NFL facility, in an FBS conference rarely draws 20,000 people. And, Temple's alumni are primarily local.

That being said, Nova has consistently put an excellent team on the field, regularly playing in the FCS playoffs. Hopefully this will continue.

The Villanova Hpme Football experience is very unique. The overall athletic facilities
approximate a dump, to be kind. The university employs every method to insure an
unacceptable and sub-standard game day experience.
Oh, I forgot, they are Villanova and they know they are smarter and better than other
universities.
Having been to numerous Villanova road games over the years, nothing can com-
pare to the Villanova experience.
When on the road, you are not extorted for $ 100.00 / game tailgate parking space.
The road schools go out of their way to be accommodating. Boy oh boy, how stupid
the other universities are.
No re-entry into the Stadium. Numerous fans have to purchase an extra ticket to
gain re-entry at halftime. What an inventive way to sell more tickets.
Radnor police threatening tailgators with arrest if the tailgate is not shut down to
their satisfaction.
Radnor police have no business on campus, unless they are needed for a problem
and a request is made for their presence on campus. Golly gee, isn't there a
Villanova University Police Force.
Andy Talley is a Saint and performs miracles on a regular basis, with minimal
university support.

Eillor, why don't you make like Pee Wee Herman & beat it. I do agree that the 'Football Experience' at VU is very sorely lackin in many areas, but lets not get carried away here. Radnor Police SUCK in so many ways, not just against tailgating. They LOVE raiding bars, breaking up student off-campus parties, often confiscating beer kegs, drinking it themelves,& returning them to liquor outlets & collecting the keg deposits, calling for students' cars to be towed, etc. Radnor Township is a thorn in VU's side.

Couple facts- -Tailgating parking (VIP) in rear of stadium is $50 per game. In that lot VU parking attendant comes around to remind us that the game starts in 15 mins and tailgating ends. I never see a Radnor cop in this tailgate area. Agree that those cops harass our students. As do LM cops.
Fr Peter's statements about sports are a few years old (5 maybe). While he will never be a sports fan he has been educated by many that athletics are very important to the University's overall health, esp in fund raising.
Why does one need to leave stadium at half time? Mostly to get some beers from their car.
The VU game day experience needs to get better. So let's work toward that goal. Let's see if we can drag the athletic people into the 21st century.
I am going to close with a bitch about Vince and staff re tailgating parking (see I am not all enamored with the athletic staff.) No VIP tailgating parking for the first playoff game because of a home hoops game. Second playoff game the athletic staff charged $50 to park in the VIP area. Small time move. Season tailgate parking fans should have been given a free be or at least a discount. Athletic dept could not have made much money. Yet from meyexperiences with others, they really did piss off the good fans.

king - Eillor is a bit over the top, but does make some valid points. However he made many factual misstatements. So what are we to think?.
My take on the game day experience being so poor is because the athletic department does not care. They could care less about. game day, or about football.
Coach T, his staff, and the players create a dilemma for the athletic staff. Cats are a national power. The athletic staff does not know how to deal with this for game day. The fund raisers know. They are doing a great job.

I was at every home game, and half the away games. Probably no team in FCS plays at such a level with as little fan support. And the sad thing, the players realize how lackluster the enthusiasm is. SDSU is their Penn State, and we'd be foolish to aspire to that. But, clearly Villanova could enhance the fan experience and chooses not to. The VIP lot is ridiculously priced, and usually not filled. The stadium is mid-range high school. Students go when parents are in town. Makes one appreciate the efforts of guys like Joe Makoid and the rest of the football club, who still fight the fight to make game day a great experience. Why don't we start compiling a proposal of changes, within reason, and be a little constructive. Seems like most on this site are donors (voluntary or tuition) or potential donors. We can nail our demands to the Wittenburg......

seems to me that most of this starts with tailgating or the lack of tailgating, the game day experience for the student fans as well as the rest of the fans needs to be enhanced. How do we get this done would be my next question?

The administration is against a tailgating-intensive environment. No idea why, but there it is. I do hear that beer sales within the stadium is a possibility, and could happen in the semi-near future. Won't hurt anything at all.

I would think that once the Pavilion gets re-done, Villanova Stadium has to be towards the top of capital projects on the Athletic side of the house. I'll take Princeton's stadium with no upper deck, please.

My guess is until our project is complete on Lancaster there will be no attempts to enhance traffic for football games. Once that is complete we could step out a little more. This includes enhanced tail gating.
