The thinking has been that Mark English (IRL) would not be coming in 2011, but there was a strong probability that he would be coming in 2012. He was here with the Dublin City University team during the indoor season and the team visited VU and supposedly it went well. What is the outcome? Is English coming this Fall? LSU-Nit, what have you heard?
Seb Coe, I wish I knew something on that front. I made inquiries to my Villanova guy about Blincoe's recruiting in NZ/Aus, but got zilch in the way of any info. Ditto about Mark English. I can tell you that there is nothing on the Irish message boards about him coming to the States. I keep in touch with a prominent Irish T&F journalist, and he's heard nothing about English leaving for the States, either. I'll contact a guy I know in Australia and will post any info I can get. For now, cricket chirping.
Marc Mauro is a football recruit that transferred in this semester. Has a strong track background. Ran 10.73 (100) and 21.83 (200) in 2010 at Locust Valley HS (NY). VU football players rarely compete in T&F, but is this a possibility? Is Mauro interested? Is Marcus interested or does he even know about Mauro?
Kelsey Margy ran a 4:46 mile at Loucks; that is the first good number I have seen from her since October 2011. I hope to see her at the New York States
in June in Syracuse.
After her outstanding mile at Penn, Mary Cain, a soph, ran a 2:03+ 800 the other day. Hope she would consider Nova, but it's probably the usual suspects: Stanford, Oregon, Gtwn., and increasingly the Ivies.
More news: Lampron ran a 3:45 running unattached somewhere in a New England
state. Venables,our frosh long distance,ran a good third in the IC4A 10,000.
Cain's time as a 10th grader might make her contender in the NCAA 800.
I'll wait to compare Cain to Mary Decker. Good coaching is more important than recruiting blue-chips at the collegiate level.
Also of note, Reber ran 48.3 in the 400 and 22.2 in the 200. Both of those times would be right around the best by Villanovans thus far this season. This post was edited on 5/13 8:31 AM by TheFoyeEffect
It's hard to say what Cain would run at the NCAA's this year. Time-wise she'd probably be an all-American. However, her 2:03 is one race without prelims; on the other hand, she probably ran all by herself. How much faster would she have run if pushed?
I'd prefer to recruit bluechip runners who get to work with the great coaching at Nova.
In my report from New York yesterday, I failed to mention that Kieran Brennan, a 2012 recruit, ran a PB of 1:52; his previous best was 1:54 or close to it. The FM junior Nick Ryan who doubled yesterday might be on our list. His coach spoke at a clinic Marcus ran.
Excellent stuff. Can always use hybrid sprinter/MD types. Sam Ellison has proven that. I hope that Villanova is pursuing Sydnee Over, as she's quite similar. This post was edited on 6/13 1:38 AM by TheFoyeEffect
Kesley Margy won the New Balance Outdoors in 4:45 to win the mile. I was amazed at how big she looked
at the New York State Championships when her pictures on various sites this year she appeared thin. She speaks
to her growth and strength change after the race yesterday.
There was another mention on letsrun about Williamsz heading to Villanova along with Lampron. This one was from an Aussie who referenced Williamsz's Twitter account.
I choose not to believe anything at this point but will wait for rosters to be posted. However, considering that outdoor rosters for last season were never posted, it could be a long wait.
Hopefully, someone can put together a list of this year's recruits for the men and women. I don't think we'll see anything from the VU sports info department.

(1) Williamsz is registered for fall 2012 semester and has a Villanova student e-mail account -- which is available via the Directory at the Villanova University homepage.
(2) Williamsz himself has confirmed via Twitter that he's coming: @jordywilliamsz
Erin Finn picked UMich. I mention it because some commits' might start to break like the the Meier twins from MI among others (Frazier, Fanning, Bos,Driscoll). Finn was the highest ranked Sr. and she's already lost a race.
