2016 - Real early look

Need to get some of you guys moving & thinking about Villanova football.

The 'Cats have some question marks to answer as they approach Coach Talley's final season at the helm.

My quick view of the season:

@Pitt: tough spot playing the hard nosed Panthers at Heinz Field. Keeping it close & staying healthy is the key. Pitt 24 Nova 7

Lehigh:
The Mountain Hawks have a potent PL offense & have loaded up on recruits to improve their defense. They are playing a 3-3-5 like Nova.
I like the Cats to exploit the newly installed defense.
Nova 35 Lehigh 17

Towson:
The Tigers appear to be poised to return to the top of the CAA. An aggressive defense could have Zach B. & co. on the run while stud RB Darrius Victor will be a test. Tigers look to Oregon transfer QB to balance their attack. Tough game to open CAA season. I'll take Cats 14 Towson 13 in front of a big parents day crowd.

@Lafayette: The PL Leopards have fallen on hard times recently as they went 1-10 last season. No way they can be that bad again, but I don't see Nova looking past anyone after Penn game debacle in '15.
Nova 38 Lafayette 14

@Elon:
1st ever contest between the 2 teams. The Phoenix are improving, but even at home it will be a game that The Cats should control start to finish.
Cats 17 Elon 6

Rhode Island:
Someone in the football department must have some pull in the CAA office with this schedule. Former Nova assistant Jim Fleming finding the rebuild slow @ Rhody. Have to think they are better, but not good enough yet.
Cats 28 Rhody 7

@Richmond:
Tough road game here against the probable CAA preseason fav. Spiders look for revenge and last 2 games have been decided by 1 point each.
Richmond 17 Nova 10

Albany:
The Great Danes are improving, but Nova continues to enjoy the favorable CAA schedule.
Nova 21 Albany 7

@Maine:
Jack Cosgrove has retired and the Black Bears appear to be in a rebuild. Something about playing in Orono in November scares me, but I think Cats will be fresh coming off their bye week.
Cats 24 Maine 10

JMU:
Hard to tell if Dukes will fall off with the graduation of Vlad Lee. New coach from The Citadel takes over & the Dukes always have talent. This will be a tough game for sure.
Nova 21 JMU 20

@Delaware:
Coach Talley's last Battle of the Blue game. The Blue Hens will have a physical defense including Penn State transfer LB Troy Reeder. Hens offense ranked last in FCS passing. This will be a great game.
Villanova 17 Delaware 14 (OT)

Looks like my spring prediction has the Cats at 9-2 which would land them an almost certain 1st round bye.
Several games could go the other way, but for now I'm sticking with 9-2!

I think there are a lot of questions to be answered about this team, but the CAA schedule makers appeared to be kind to Coach Talley at least on paper.

My take on Jay's reaction....

...imho I think (after watching it at least a dozen times) Jay's look of disgust and the throwing up of the hands after Jenkins shot was him showing disappointment that the bench rushed the court without knowing if there was still a fraction of a second on the clock...isn't that a potential technical?...probably was like: I have gone over this in practice a million times I can't believe I am seeing what I'm seeing...I think his answers to the question to the press were just him not wanting to throw his players under the bus...

Not a Good Look

A little too much Caritas for my taste.

Prostitution

The thread about sugar daddies and prosti-tuition (img src="leno.jpg") got me thinking about a conversation i had with some catholic Irish lass not long ago...

Places like Thailand and the Philippines are teeming with prostitution. Not the pimp exploitation kind we know in American inner cities. But the poverty-born, "i have no money and need to feed my family" kind. A lot of times there's no pimp behind it whatsoever.
In fact, for two hundred bucks there were probably 75 girls i met in two months who would have moved to the states with me and been my wife.

The Irish chick, being the staunch stick up the ass type, had a problem with it and with them on a moral level.

I see none at all. What do you guys think? Do most of you catholic bozos find prostitution morally wrong in an environment of extreme poverty?

Some of the best investigative journalism the NYT has ever put out.

“Let me tell you about this business,” Adam Vega, a thickly muscled, heavily tattooed Mister Softee man who works the upper reaches of the Upper East Side and East Harlem, said on Wednesday. “Every truck has a bat inside.”

Got a good laugh ...

.... this morning that made being stuck in a PA turnpike traffic jam slightly more bearable this morning.
One of those jams where you roll up about three or four car lengths every 30 seconds or so over and over again.
Thus 20 something bish in front of me is texting like crazy - sometimes veering off towards the cement construction barriers - consistently leaving twice the space between her and the car in front of her than needed while she pounds away in her phone.
When I see that she is looking in the rear view mirror I lip the words "just put your damn phone down and drive" ... she pays no mind.
I start thinking it would be nice if she scraped the side of her car on the barrier as a wake-up call to get her to stop.
About 10 minutes later after more of the same pattern I hear two cars collide and see that she has successfully rear-ended the car in front of her.
Luckily there was room for the 2 cars to pull over. I slowed down and told the guy who was rear-ended "she was texting for the last 20 minutes - don't let her tell you otherwise "

Memorial Day reflections.....

It's certainly appropriate that we all say a prayer for those that have given us the Freedom to enjoy the lives we have....in my case,I almost didn't happen as my Father's Aircraft Carrier was heavily Kamikazeed during the decisive Battle of Leyte in the Pacific,their ship lost 1,000 men and my Dad went into the water with a severe head injury. The heroics of other sailors saved his life and a Dr. under great duress was able to temporarily repair his skull....I lost an uncle in Korea,although I was too young to remember much,but I live everyday with the memory of my two best buddies from HS being killed in Vietnam,one blown in half by a "bouncing betty" and the other a gunner on an attack helicopter shot out of the air. I still live with guilt as I avoided conscription,albeit not before a short incarceration.
I sincerely hope none of you have suffered the loss of a child or sibling in the Middle East,or other conflicts,but odds are you have. Most of you knew victims of 9-11,whom i consider war casualties.
Let's all take a moment,give Thanks to those we knew and those we never knew ,say a prayer for their souls and try to remember the Good times we enjoyed with them,I believe that's what they would have wanted.
