Lax vs Football

Serious question, not looking to start an uproar. The Big East is at a critical point in its "new" existence. We want the league to be as powerful as possible across all sports. Would it make sense to shift SOME funding from football to lacrosse to bolster those programs which will in turn strengthen the league. I think it is worth looking into. I love football, I am season ticket holder and monetary booster of the program. Football is not a Big East program therefore it is a logical target for reduced scholarships to benefit our other programs that are Big East sanctioned. Curious to see other thoughts and perspectives on the matter.

Georgetown - Maryland to play in both the 2015 and 2016 challenges

This in effect is a home and home through the structure of the challenges. It also proves that the schools in the BE and Big 10 did have input into who their opponents would be. Some on this board surprisingly thought the powers to be named the opponents for these games without the approval of the schools involved. Also, Michigan State and Wisconsin are not participating in the inaugural event in 2015. Maybe we can swing a home and home with Michigan State in the future using the Challenge as the means.

OT: Szczur

Maybe I missed the post on Matt, but in case I didn't, I thought people would be interested to know that he made the Cubbies Opening Day Roster. Didn't get any action on Monday, but came in as a defensive replacement today. Looks like he's behind Chris Coghlan for the time being. Coghlan won the NL ROY in 2009 with the Marlins, but did next to nothing from then until last year where he did a decent job with the Cubs. Hasn't started out too hot this year though, so maybe Matt has a chance to earn a starting gig.

The linked article has a funny story regarding the Cubs manager Maddon, and Matt, as Maddon is a Lafayette alumn.

Early practice observations

I was at the Coaches Clinic this weekend, and here are some of my observations. I can't do justice to it like a classic ACE post, but here goes:

How the newcomers do defensively will dictate the amount of PT they get. No surprise there. Everybody competes hard, I found myself cringing at some of the collisions during practice!

Curt looked good. I think the brace limits him a tiny bit laterally (for now), but he was up and down the floor without a problem, and still can get up fine. I didn't see him limp or favor it once.

Scottie Reynolds will play, and play well, right away. Offensively, he is already a solid point guard, and will make good decisions. If you just saw the team for the first time, you would think he was a junior or senior, seems very "collected" on the floor.

Bilal looked good at the point when he played that position. His comfort zone is driving to the basket, and his D is still tough as ever.

Dwayne looked impressive at times, especially in one of the scrimmage periods.

Pena has a nice mix of inside and outside game.

Redding is already in the flow offensively, and knows where he's supposed to be (he doesn't have to "think" about it).

Ott and Drummond are progressing nicely, and both can finish at the basket. Cas is still working on his conditioning.

Jay's emphasis during offense was on getting each player, even the seniors, to understand what they did well, and don't be afraid to "make a play".

Iverson (Showtime Documentary)

i really hope it goes into his spending.

Matt Barnes was just quoted as saying AI would drop 30K a night at Strip Clubs, he'd throw thousands at a time at strippers and Barnes used to pick up what came towards him.
