I was at the Coaches Clinic this weekend, and here are some of my observations. I can't do justice to it like a classic ACE post, but here goes:
How the newcomers do defensively will dictate the amount of PT they get. No surprise there. Everybody competes hard, I found myself cringing at some of the collisions during practice!
Curt looked good. I think the brace limits him a tiny bit laterally (for now), but he was up and down the floor without a problem, and still can get up fine. I didn't see him limp or favor it once.
Scottie Reynolds will play, and play well, right away. Offensively, he is already a solid point guard, and will make good decisions. If you just saw the team for the first time, you would think he was a junior or senior, seems very "collected" on the floor.
Bilal looked good at the point when he played that position. His comfort zone is driving to the basket, and his D is still tough as ever.
Dwayne looked impressive at times, especially in one of the scrimmage periods.
Pena has a nice mix of inside and outside game.
Redding is already in the flow offensively, and knows where he's supposed to be (he doesn't have to "think" about it).
Ott and Drummond are progressing nicely, and both can finish at the basket. Cas is still working on his conditioning.
Jay's emphasis during offense was on getting each player, even the seniors, to understand what they did well, and don't be afraid to "make a play".
