Michigan/Illinois

Michigan is absolutely smoking Illinois in the 2nd half, up 22........Illinois was on the bubble and needed this W while Michigan needs to win the entire tourny..........really surprised that Illinois laying an egg like this with so much on the line against a team that has been decimated by injuries and early entries to the pros.

season and historical thoughts

I was awake from 1-4 am last night....thinking about the season and the enjoyment we have been provided.... What an awesome team and program.... I have so many great memories starting from fall 1989 and I think the wonder of following villanova basketball is in part because of the rock solid community of people with whom I've had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know......

And the quality of basketball is and has been outstanding....

Two losses!!! Good mercy!!

I think we are in for a big long ride this postseason... I'll share a few great experiences and memories. Playing Shaq 1990 NCAA's...beating Princeton 1991....winning 94 NIT...rocking NYC with all of you and my father....95 Kittles dunk.... Nashville sweet 16 weekend....Minny BC win.... Blowing up Boston in 2009.....

Looking forward to this month with you!!!

This team is ready for the big run....

Go cats!!!!!

Surprised no one mentioned Pitt's season going pop

Last night Pitt's bubble burst. Usually I don't find enjoyment in the misery of others. However, this one did bring a little smile to my face. Nice to see Pitt and Cuse had their season's end before March 15. Luckily their fans can wrap themselves in a brand-spanking new ACC blanket, curl up to the fire and enjoy another 4 weeks of hoops. If they are feeling frisky in the Burgh, next week come on out and watch some hoops.

How deeply will forthcoming sanctions impact the UNC program?

Assuming the hammer falls harder in Chapel Hill than it did in Syracuse, how deeply will this impact UNC's program? I suppose you're in deep sh*t when a three page thread on your board is entitled "Is the academic mess really destroying the program?"

Naturally, their chief concern is the apparent fall-off in recruiting. There's a lot of concern about "negative recruiting" by all the competing coaches. I have to believe that is definitely happening. Brings back old memories, doesn't it? It really makes you appreciate the track Jay has VU on right now. Reading the Duke board, they are ready to step on UNC's neck.

It's hard to fathom that two out of the three best teams in the ACC are going to be fundamentally neutralized over the next 4 - 5 years due to sanctions. That is going to benefit some lucky conference - hopefully, the Big East.

If our conference makes good use of this post season, I think we (and especially Villanova) have a huge opportunity that could be unfolding in our laps.

Hottest trending team in the country right now: Villanova.

Point spreads in BET

Villanova -13.5 over Marquette
GTown -7.5 over Creighton
Butler -1.5 over Xavier
Providence -1.5 over St. John's

I am a little surprised with Providence being a slight favorite over the Johnies, personally I would prefer playing St John's int he semis. Their lack of depth really hurts them against a team like Nova, add on the fact that they would be playing another tough game in 24 hours if they beat Providence. I think GTown and Nova both win by about 15, St John's wins a one possession game that goes down to the buzzer and Butler wins by about 5-6 over Xavier.

Sam Iorio

Took a little drive to to Sam and Parkland take on Pennsburry. Game was pretty close in the first half, but Pennsburry blew it open in the second half to take the win. Pennsburry has two D-1 players. Parkland has a young, but very talented team.

Iorio did not show much in this game. Pennsburry has a six foot eight center, Derrick Woods (St.Boneventure) who shuts down everything inside. So, Sam was not able to get anything in the lane. Can Jones (Rider) is six foot one and guarded Sam all night and shut him down.

As I said, Sam Iorio did not shoe anything special, finished with two points, five rebounds, on 1-5 shooting. He is a good shooter and has a nice little dribble game. Again, he is a 2017 recruit and has a long ways to go. Seeing him play before, I will not be shocked if he ends up in the top 150 lists by time he is a senior. I am not overreacting to this game, but thought I would report it.

Eric

I will start off by saying I love what you do here, but I was a little surprised to not see anything on the front page about Arch being named Big East co-POY as well as Jay being named COY. I usually hate it when people b!tch to the moderators about trivial things, so I may in fact get ripped for this post, but I do not believe those two announcements are trivial.

Frischilla comments about Villanova/ESPN

Listening to Sirius last night and a caller (probably someone on this board) raised the issue of Villanova not getting enough press relative to the other contenders. Frischilla acknowledged and prefaced his comments by saying "I need to be careful here because I get paid by the Worldwide Leader" but it's true. He then posited that it was because FoxSports1 was new and developing. Packer then commented that it was also true and unfair, but Foxsports1's other content was "abysmal" and suggested the lack of crossover market (motorcross/UFC/nascar) was the reason - I inferred that, but I thinks it's a fair inference.
I thought it was refreshing for Frischilla to say what he did, and also provided further evidence that ESPN management takes this personally.

Willard

FTL for a story on Seton Hall coach Kevin Willard and why he is expected back next year.

Not sure I agree with the statement, "The view that Willard represents the university well..."

Willard still has not addressed what led to a player quitting in mid-season, and the Gibbs incident seems to have been forgotten.

Cooley's Nova Love

“I voted for Arcidiacono,â€￾ PC coach Ed Cooley told listeners to his radio show on 103.7 FM Wednesday night. “I thought he was the straw that stirred their drink, and that if you took him away from Villanova, you take away their heart. He killed us with some big shots, and many times, coaches will vote for the guys that help beat them.â€￾
