DePaul

Are they in any kind of Financial position to buy the remaining two years in Purnell's contract? (at least $3.2 million) I just don't see them getting any better with him at the helm, and it would be great for the Conference to have a strong team in Chicago.

Embiid

I would say Seriously, Clark.....but this is no joke.

So I will instead just say....Seriously, motherf*cker?

God damn can we ever realistically expect this guy to even play half an NBA season?

He cant even avoid hurting himself in practice.

Sixers. Phils. Flyers. Eags. Man, stellar times right now.

Win the chip, Nova. Please.

Guard Development

I wanted to make this post giving the up most credit first to the guards on our team, Ennis, Booth, Arch, and Hilliard. As this team heads into the postseason and the regular season has come to an end I have to give our guards a huge amount of credit. Not only have they all improved since last year, they ALL got better in season as well. I can sit here an post that Arch took home co BE POY, but it is really so much more than that. Ennis has really impressed me over that last ten games. Taking notice of his defense he brings it everyday. What I was really impressed with last Saturday is that after he was dunked on he got right back up and went right after Rysheed Jordan and did indeed out play him, Ennis is one tough kid on the court and mentally. He makes some tough shots. Reverse that dunk sequence with Rysheed and Ennis. If Ennis did that to Rysheed he would fold mentally, Ennis didn't, that's a huge amount of toughness and maturity. as well.

Booth has really impressed me a ton this year. I had higher expectations for him than some. He looks like he really hit his stride mid way through. I never thought he hit a freshman wall, he has been so productive in the time he has given.

DH I will once admit I was so wrong about him. He has helped me loom at players differently when I go to watch players play. He is a model of consistency in what you want in your guard and in my opinion, the best player on your team. To me, he is a five tool player, shoot, pass, handle, defend, and lead. He has had a great year and deserves everything thing he gets, really a true Villanova guard. I will miss watching him when he graduates. He really should be a blueprint for any guard recruit. You want to improve on a yearly basis at you school of choice, look at how DH had improved each year. I am serious about the statement. I will not be shocked if he is on an NBA roster come fall time.

Arch= BE POY, speaks for itself.

Lastly, I have to give the staff huge credit. These guards don't improve each year without the staff we have, Jay, Baker, Ashley, and other have done a tremendous job year round with these players. I have gotten to the point where I expect to see all of our players improve year round because of the vision and commitment of the staff.

Awesome job by all involved.

Indy does a good job again

the JW in downtown indy is putting the largest ncaa bracket on the outside of their hotel for the final four celebration. Construction began today, when the SB was here, they wrapped the hotel in. Lombardo trophy, but this is way cooler.

Here's hoping you all get a chance to see it (and our cats) in person.

I'll have pics of it completed tomorrow.

Rooting tonight for.....?

Marquette and Creighton....
Creighton, because they have so much tough luck this season that a win would restore a little self esteem and McDermott seems like a good guy.
Marquette...because it will make my wife happy ,but mainly because I just don't want any part of The Hall....it would be an emotional game vs a "take care of business" game.....Gibbs and company can score,. I'm not caught up in the payback for last year BS....I just want to win and advance.

The Chief

Found some rebounding stats on the Chief that were interesting to me. kenpom provides two rebounding stats for individual players: OR% and DR%. OR% is: PlayerOR / [%Min * (Team OR + Opp. DR)]. PlayerOR is the number of offensive rebounds by the player. %Min is the percentage of the team's minutes played by the player. Team OR is team offensive rebounds, and Opp. DR is the opponents' defensive rebounds against that team. So, if Ochefu gets 10 rebounds in 32 minutes (in a non-OT game), we have 50 offensive rebounds, and our opponent has 50 defensive rebounds, his OR% would be .125 - (10/.8*100).

As you'd expect, DR% is: PlayerDR / [%Min * (Team DR + Opp. OR)]. In either case, it's a rough shot at the percentage of missed shots on either end that the player collects when he's in the game.

For the season, Ochefu is 27th in the country in OR% and 8th in DR%. That's pretty damn impressive. He's generally playing only 19-26 minutes per game since conference play started, but when he's in there, he's collecting an awful lot of the missed shots.

Outstanding Article on Arch

Lot of great quotes here. I can't help but read this story though and think about the other thread about not "slobbering" over the regular season. I truly in my heart feel that you do a disservice to these kids who put so much out there every day...practice, offseason, games...31 of them already. Yes, there is more games to be played, but it is important to reflect on what these guys are and what they've done to get here.

Arch

We can slobberrrrrrrr all over.........

this team as much as we want, and I am all for it, but the fact of the matter is, the Dance is the only thing that is going to define its success. The BET isn't even going to hold that much water, especially if we lay an egg in the Dance.
We have steamrolled the league for two consecutive yrs. The competition has been questionable. The league is going to be judged, fairly or not, by our success in the Dance. Nobody else in the league will be expected to win other then a possible first round game.......If we go in with a #1 seed, anything short of elite 8 is going to be a disappointment and a black-eye for the league. Sweet 16 may soften it a bit, but for a team that sat in the top 10 all yr, it really doesn't cut it.
I am well aware of all the luck that needs to be had, while trying to cut the nets down, but it is time for this team to carry the league on its back.........Great teams find a way to get thru that hard game, get on a roll, and perform to potential.......let's do it
