daniel ochefu

deserves his own thread. Cannot say enough what his play meant to this team during this amazing run. We all said he was the key and he really was. He was fantastic in every single game. His play through the first 5 games has been discussed and I realize the d was a team effort on Monday but boy did he play tough. And as he did throughout the whole tournament, he hit some key key buckets in big time spots. Daniel answered the bell. He dug down deep. He is a smart kid and a good kid so the off the court representation has always been there and it was great for the national audience to see it. But in the court, what can we say. Big thank you to Daniel. You deserve this as much as anyone!

Back to the Future...

...my Dad asked me last night if I could go back in time and relive one day would you choose April 1, 1985 or April 4, 2016....wow...that's like choosing between a Lamborghini or Ferrari....or Charlize Theron or Julianne Hough...still pondering my answer...each were obviously great but in a different context accompanied by a different vibe...hmmmm....

Kyle Lowry and Raptors

Kyle Lowry's fortunes have been kind of like Villanova's recently. Both have emerged as top-tier programs/point guards over the last couple years but have not performed as well on the national stage. Obviously, Villanova exorcised those demons this year.

Lowry struggled in Game 1, and the Raptors lost by 10 at home. It's their 7th straight playoff loss. The Raptors haven't been past the 1st round since 2001.

I was hoping that the Raptors would make a deep run, and Kyle Lowry would become a star on a bigger stage. I'm hoping the Raptors can bounce back in Game 2.

Derrick Snowden

Is getting inducted into the Baltimore Catholic League Hall of Fame on Tuesday. I haven't seen Snow in probably 10 years.

I can never forget the game vs Michigan St in Alaska and the defense he played in Chris Hill in that game. I was sitting front row and they ran the same play nearly every trip down. High pick to run Snow into some monster. Snow was on him the whole game.

I talked to Izzo in the lobby the next day and he said it was the best individual defensive effort ever against his team. He said they stuck with it because they just knew Snow would get worn down running into guys 75lbs more than him all game.

I heard from his HS Coach Mike Glick that he is doing well, has a family now....all that good stuff.

Very happy for him.

UNC - the never ending investigation

The NCAA modified it's allegations against UNC and this restarts the clock to review, reply, rebut and re-delay any action.

  • It added a new charge about "failure to monitor", adding specifics
  • It removed a charge of school athletes receiving improper benefits through access to the Afro American Studies departmentThere is some discussion in the article about the courses were to help keep at risk athletes eligible "particularly in football, men's and women's basketball pretty much negating Roy William's claim that no mention of basketball was made.

Read the story and see if you can make better sense than I did of it, but it appears that any ruling is being pushed back a year or so.
