Calm Down......

If you think about it, Ennis' decision makes perfect sense. He will have a Villanova degree and he can pick a school where he believes he can showcase his skills. We will miss his defense but he saw the light coming from Illinois, and we all saw how good Booth was as the year transpired. Ennis was a member of two great regular season teams and will always be a Cat, but Brunson isnt coming here to watch from the bench. Now go back to work.

Cuse McCollough to NBA

Sure I spelled his name wrong but he's gone. Kid did absolutely nothing during his time and blew out his knee. However, he's a first round talent. Be interesting to see if he gets drafted there or goes second round. My guess is someone gave him a guarantee he'll get drafted later in the first round and get his money. Good thing for a club picking late in the 1st round. He's worth a flier. Sam Hinkie will probably draft him with one of those picks and have him sit out next season. Believe it's in his GM contract he must do this once per draft.

Rewatched NC State

It's funny when you watch a game over where you know the outcome. Me and OldT really picked apart each possession. I can assure you - sixe had nothing to do with that loss - nothing. Some thoughts:

A. We missed five or so uncontested or mildly contested layups/dunks. We were clean to the cup on all of them (3 Darrun, 2 Daniel) and they just didn't go down...

B. It's funny how bounces matter. If you look at Dylan Ennis's last three point effort, the ball went off the rim to the right. If it comes back straight, JVP had clear inside position after his roll to the hoop after setting the ball screen for Dylan. If the ball kicks left, Josh Hart is right there for the putback with Turner watching behind him. Of course, the ball kicks to the right where Arch was on the perimeter and his defender (Lee) was in clear position for an easy rebound.

C. Malik Abu played his guts out. He came into the game averaging 6.1 points and had 13. His effort was out of control and frankly, and I love JVP, he just outhearted JVP - just out toughed him, just worked harder. JVP has had an outstanding career, but Abu's intensity level was at another level. Frankly, it wasn't about how JVP played. Abu was just on another planet effort wise - would have done that to anyone that night.

D. The three point effort - or our paltry three point shooting until Darrun got hot late - had little or nothing to do with NC State's defense. They didn't leave Arch - ever. When we ball screened we tried to get Anya involved because he didn't move at all - horrendous ball screen defense. Probably four times in the game, Ochefu ball screened for Darrun. Darrun's defender when under the screen - Anya was 10 feet away and Darrun just missed an uncontested three that he frequently makes. It happens - just wasn't our night.

E. They denied and never left Arch all night. Made him do it off the dribble if he was going to do it...

F. Josh and Kris missed clean threes that they made in NYC.

G. Lennard Freeman did a great job switching/blitzing ball screens - especially on Arch.

H. It wasn't the sixe of the NC State bigs. It was their athleticism or quickness or fast twitch muscles that gave Daniel and JVP and Kris trouble. Whether it was their second jump or their quickness to tie us up on rebounds or their quickness guarding our guards on switches - they were more Donte Cunningham type bigs than they were defined by their sixe.

I. Daniel is really good. I've never been an Ochefu fan, but boy did he improve. He played lousy against NC State, but still was a presence and was really good. It's exciting who he can be next year. he really did compete, just got outquicked, out-fast twitched, out toughed by Abu and Freeman.

J. Barbers quickness, Lacey's ability off the bounce were differentiators. Our guards hung in there, but it was a push in the backcourt and we usually win the backcourt.

We lost the game because of the quickness/toughness/effort of the NC State front court and us missing shots we normally make. Make no more or no less of it. We will be back.

March 31, 1985

i just threw down my keychain i have been carrying for nearly 30 years......a small brass replica ticket stub from Rupp Arena that simply says " 1985 Championship Game.....Villanova 66 Georgetown 64".......probably bought it in the bookstore that spring....i enjoyed your Pittsburgh road trip stories so let me go back 30 years for a great road trip

about 30 years ago today i get a call from a high school buddy that worked at NBC and says i have an extra so get your butt down here......hooking up with 2 classmates we called a travel agent (no time to explain what that is) and got a flight to Cincinnati early Monday.......arrived in cincy and the rental car guy goes...."we are out of compacts...would you like a lincoln continental at the same price"....in style heading to Lexington that Lincoln pulled off in a dry county for lunch but quickly got back on the road still hungry.......remember a mall like atmosphere next to Rupp pre game......no need to talk about the game here but still have scars from spending the last 2 minutes on my knees.....i remember after the game the Lincoln pulling into a drive-up beer place for a few suitcases for the hotel parties that lasted well into the night......just a memorable feeling today

looking around my office i have framed pictures of the team, a glossy picture of EZ ed which a printer friend gave me saying it was used to produce the SI cover and the full program signed by the team.........in addition to a cartoon Christmas card we sent out that year with the Wildcat sitting in a rocker twirling a ball while smoking a cigar with the bulldog and redman peeking behind the Christmas tree.......it says......."decked the Hoyas with wows from Rollie".....fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la

I cherish this keychain everyday

A big recruiting miss could ...

... have been Pennsbury C Lavoy Allen a while ago. Granted, we had Yarou who was considered a good recruit. Imagine if we had offered & gotten both. Problem is, that's not reallyn Jay's game. He loves Guards. I believe in casting a wide net for bigs. Recruit at least ONE 6'8+ per year even if some are 'projects'. Chances are, at least 2-3 can contribute every single year. A Schilling, a 'Nard, a Reynolds, how about offering Mohammed Bamba now, an athletic 6'10 junior. Height doesn't grow on trees. My two cents ... Go Cats

Trey Duval

Went to watch a little Donofrio tonight and Duval. This kid is a stud, six foot three, can shoot a little, has a very good handle, and is one heck of an athelte. I know Nova has offered (at least it was reported), but this kid will have every major program after him, if he does not already.

I will have an interview with him next week, as I had to make an appointment, imagine that!

He easily had 25 points tonight and threw down a thunderous dunk to end his night. Pretty nice build for his body for only being sixteen years old. Future All-American.

DE2UNC?

Roy Williams apparently said on his radio show a couple of days ago that there is a graduate transfer student with interest in UNC.

Obviously there are a bunch of player that fit that description, but I thought I would throw it out there.
