Fox Sports 0.1

One of the early and easiest knocks on the Big East has been its ratings on Fox Sports 1. I've contended that it is primarily due to the infancy of the network, and the dearth of quality lead in programming to our games. Audiences need time to regularly adopt viewing the network, and that will take time.

Just take a look at the ratings for Monday night. FS1 has ZERO quality primetime programming.

7-8PM Off Season Baseball - 43k viewers
8PM - Joe Maddon interview 33k viewers
8:30PM - Katie Nolan - 27k Garbagetime viewers
9PM - Grand Prix of Qatar - 56k viewers

From a Fox Sports perspective, Big East basketball drew 5x the numbers on a regular weeknight. BE championship drew over 400k on the network. Meanwhile, the Golf Channel is wiping up FS1 on a Monday night.

This is NOT a Big East issue. This is a Fox issue.

ST John's

They look to be the strong leader for Tennessee transfer Tariq Owens. Interstingly, one of the selling points to Tariq and crew is he will be developed by Ed Pinckney. HE is visiting St John's next week.

St John's also may get a visit from Drexel transfer Damion Lee. He has already been contacted by Mullin

Everyone should be a little selfish

You can play a 100% positive role in a team dynamic and still be selfish. And that's not a bad thing.

If you don't look out for yourself nobody will. If you have balls enough to make tough choices, especially as a young adult, kudos to you. I respect Ennis and his choice. I rooted for him while he was here and I will root for him during his next chapter.

The number of folks in this world who aren't selfish by choice are few and far between. I would actually argue that if you don't display some level of self-interest you are doing yourself a disservice.

There will be no Ennis bashing from this guy.

Ot: Matt Scszur

Is having a tremendous spring. Maddon loves him. Last year I thought Cubs brass did not think he was in Cubs future , that's not case. Cubs beat writer Gordon Wittenmeyer says Joe Maddin wants Matt up from day 1 and would use Matt a ton in a variety of different roles. Matt has 1 option left so maybe he doesn't break camp with Cubs but if not its temporary as Maddon has convinced Theo and boys Matt has a bright future in Cubby blue

Villanovans Helping Villanovans

Tough day for us all. Thought I would share a good story I saw on Facebook today.

The girl at the end playing the flute and crying has become an internet sensation.

Mike Maloney owner of Maloneys Pub posted that she was the greatest fan he had ever seen and that if she is 21 drinks are free for her the rest of the year.

Turns out she responded and she is.

Got to know the Maloney brothers from my time at Nova, 2 great dudes.

amazing height stat from ESPN the Mag

American Males, Ages 20-39:

6-21/2 - 6-61/2 - 2.75M - 119 - 0.0043%

5-61/2 - 5-101/2 - 18.97M - 1 - 0.000005%

Mugsy was off this chart - literally.

I am not sure if I believe that # but 10% of men over 6-101/2 in that age group are in the NBA ...

Potential New Rules Question

I think most of the board members are in agreement that on paper our defense will take a hit next season. My question is if the shot clock is reduced to 30 seconds, as I'd assume we will continue to use the 3/4 court trap to slow the opposing offense, will it help, hurt, or not make a difference to our team defense? Guess I'm hopeful that if the other teams take the same amount of time to get the ball up the court, they will have less time to break down our D which will give us a better shot of getting stops and then relying on the offense to pull out games.

OT: Job openings in Moorestown, NJ

If anyone out there is a senior or very recently graduated from 'Nova and is looking for a job in engineering, my department within Lockheed Martin is going to be posting some job openings for some entry level system engineers this spring. Electrical, computer engineering along with computer science and math degrees would be well suited to apply. These are entry level positions so little to no job experience is required.

Contact me for any more information: akeefe01 at villanova dot edu. Feel free to pass this along to anyone else you might know who is looking.

LASIK

Seriously considering doing Lasik, almost everyone I've spoken with who's had it says it's great. Looks like to go to a good doctor it's about 2,000-2,400/eye. I'm spending $400/year on daily contacts, seems to make sense in the long run.

Anyone have a good doctor recommendation in the CoP? Good/Bad experiences? Seems like the price also might be negotiable.

What we lost

With our departing SRs and Ennis, here is what we lost in some key stats:

Minutes = 40.7%
Points = 43.8%
Rebounds = 38.5%
FT's = 47%
3Ps Made = 42%
Blocks = 39%
Steals = 46.2%

Food for thought. I feel good about making up our lost points, but I'm not sure about everything else.

OT: Tired of Ennis talk? Try this about hazing at St.Joes

On the women's softball team!

From 6abc:

"....Sources say the students being initiated had to consume alcohol, perform acts involving inappropriate touching, perform lap dances for upperclassman on the team, mimic various sex acts and other allegations too graphic to be outlined."

Joe Lunardi won't have much time for Final4
