Is it better for us to lose in BET?

Heard this stat today: 6 of the last 8 "top seeds" (defined as a 1-4 seed in NCAA tourney) to make the Final Four, did NOT win their conference tournament. The implication being that it's better for top teams to get a wake up call before it really matters. Thought that was interesting.

We've won 12 in a row. Anyone think it's better for us to lose next weekend under the idea that we are "due" for a stinker at some point?

The New ACC

Watching the Cuse get bombed by UNCS I can't help but laugh at the state of the athletic programs at BC, Pitt and now Syracuse. They are destined to be bottom feeders in that conference. I don't think in the long run Syracuse will be able to overcome the stench of this fiasco. The southern schools have to love it. They destroyed the old Big East, allow their conference to expand to the magic number for football and still stay dominant in the sport that counts to many of them basketball.
I know some will argue that they are stuffing their coffers, but as a fan that does not matter as much to me. All three have elected money over tradition, fan support, etc. They can now drown in the southern swamps with full pockets.

Jay Wright.......

What an amazing regular season Jay has led this team through. Keeping any team this focused for 31 games is to be commended. His gameday x and o coaching has been the best its ever been. His rotations have been spot on all year. No problems with in-bounds plays. No problems with full court pressure. No issues with any players off the court (that i'm aware of). Team never gets rattled and plays with incredible poise...thanks to Jay. And I dont think Jay has been criticized all year on this board.....which is amazing in itself. Thanks Jay to the best regular season in Nova History.

100 point stuff

Coach Wright doesn't like to run scores up.
The team was so hot today it was hard to contain the score.
This is the first 100 point game since 11/11/11 against Monmouth (106-70).

Other 105+ games under Jay Wright:

107-68 over Fordham 11/17/08.
108-61 over Rider 12/20/06
110-89 against Rutgers 1/18/03
114-103 over Redlands 11/22/03

Villanova 100+ point games in March:

3/13/97 101-91 over LIU in first round of NCAAs
102-89 over Alabama in 1977 NIT - 3/20/77
103-79 over Canisius in 1994 NIT - 3/17/94
103-97 over LaSalle on 3/12/78 in NCAAs
106-71 over King's in 1952
109-73 over Seton Hall in 1964
126-96 over Seton Hall in 1970 (highest point total in Nova history)

2 quick questions if you will....

Watched the Very Exciting end of Belmont-Murray State (Belmont kid hits an acrobatic 3 to win Ohio Valley Conf)....the screen below said Lunardi predicting Murray State (#25 rated team and winner of 25 straight games) won't make NCAA....that seems laughable to me?....they could beat any Big Ten team outside of Wisc and maybe Terps....is that scenario possible?
Second question,Roy Williams ,in a classy move, started two walk ons vs Duke,I figured they would foul 20 secs into game then come out,but he left them in for about 3 mins and next thing you know they are down 5. I'm all for honoring your bench kids, but I thought that was a bit excessive.

next year we should play up to maximum allowable games downtown

This was discussed earlier in the year and I feel more strongly than I did then: you do not go over the allowable games downtown in order to play first two rounds in Philly. We will be a high seed again and want those games in Philly. Lots left to enjoy this year but this dawned on me based on a conversation I had today.

Great post from the St. John's board (redmen.com) about Villanova

I was at the game today and this is certainly what I saw as well. Great atmosphere and real comradery between the Villanova fans. We all know we are a part of something special.

"Man, I'll say this. Nova's program and ours is still a tale of two cities, Students on break? Maybe - there didn't seem to be tons of them in building although there were a lot, BUT the place was jammed. Apparently a ton or alumni, lots of families, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 somethings - across the spectrum. Men and women - of all ages. Forget about them being a top 5 program right now just for a second. They have a following, a BIG following, a loyal following, and I'm jealous.

I know what we HAD - but had was a long time ago. I also know that a following is a function of winning. But I also know what IS, and what we have is a small, loyal, passionate following of mostly men in the 40-70 year range. We have a long way to go.

Good for Nova. They are what we can be if we stay the course and improve this program."

Big East Tournament - RPI Rooting Interests

As it pertains to our resume, this is who we should be rooting for this week. Butler's win today pushed them from #26 in the RPI to #24. That's an incredibly big deal for us.

Wednesday night:
Seton Hall #83 OVER Marquette #153 (Marquette is RPI Poison)

Thursday Day:
Providence #23 OVER St. John's #35 (Want Providence to stay Top 25 in RPI)

Thursday Night:
Georgetown is #19. A loss vs. DePaul/Creighton probably isn't bad enough to drop them below #25.

streaking

today's W was the 12th straight BE win for 'Nova - breaking the old record of 11 set by the 2006 team.

the team record for the longest winning streak within a season is 13. This was set in 1937-38 (to start the season), tied in 1963-64 and then tied again this year to start the season.

the team record for longest win streak overall is 15 - this was set in 1949-50 and 1950-51.

FS1 & BE - Who's at "fault"

Been monitoring the ratings for BE games on FS1. If accurate, they are continually pitiful in comparison to the juggernaut that is the ESPN machine. Some apples to apples comparisons from Tuesday

7pm - 9pm

ESPN - Iowa - Indiana 1,355,000 viewers
ESPNU - UNC - GA Tech 334,000 viewers
ESPN2 - NBA Coast 2 Coast - 234,000 viewers
FS1 - Georgetown - Butler - 129,000 viewers

9pm - 11pm

ESPN - Kentucky - Georgia - 2,797,000 viewers
ESPN2 - West Virginia - Kansas 719,000 viewers
FS1 - Villanova - Creighton 136,000 viewers
ESPNU - Texas AM - Florida - 105,000 viewers

Those ratings stink. There are going to be some very difficult meetings at Fox, as the whole FS1 network has only had blips of ratings success. Somehow, the Big East's on the court success needs to translate into national ratings. Puts even more importance on not just getting 6 teams in the Dance this year, but a crooked number of them in the Sweet 16.
