possible 8/9 teams

I realize I am early with this post, and all the team should focus on is Thurs game. However, as a fan I am allowed to look ahead a few days.

Hypothetically, if we are a #1 seed does anyone have any thoughts on the possible 8/9 teams below?

I will leave out any BE team because they couldn't be in our bracket. I admit I haven't seen many of them play.

Cincinnati - I've seen them play....yes please
LSU - I know they gave Kentucky all they could handle
Ok State - no idea but they are always big and athletic
Dayton
Georgia
NC State
Colorado St
O$U - they looked terrible at home vs Wisconsin
Oregon - see Ok St
Davidson - Does Steph Curry still play for them?
VCU- we match up well with them
Mich St

I would love to play anyone not in a power conference...Dayton, Davidson, Cincy, Col St, VCU.

SC Upstate vs. North Florida

Very exciting game. Crowd is crazy from the opening tip-off. Playing in the background as I am trying to do my taxes. Do they not have seats in their gym? Everyone is standing the entire game.

Who would have thought they would give a crap about basketball in Northern Florida.

March is great. I could not care less about the bowl games, World Series, NBA championship, or Super Bowl anymore. The impact that the college basketball tournament has on so many schools and alums makes it exponentially much more exciting.

So many kids putting it all out there just to get into the tournament. Great to see.

Next Year's Big East: Not Looking Great

Now that the regular season is over and before the conference tourney begins, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at what the Big East landscape is heading into next season. Obviously, things can change with transfers and late signees. I'd argue we need, as a conference, some very positive additions because the current state is not very rosy for next season.

My take in order of current standings:

1. Villanova - We may not go 29-2 again. In fact, I'd bet good money that our winning percentage next year will be down. Nonethless, we will be very good.

2. Georgetown - Expect the Hoyas to finish in this spot again next season, but they do loses some key guys. I don't think DSR is going anywhere. If he does, that would be a big issue because the Hoyas lose Smith, Trawick and Hopkins. The current frosh should take a nice step forward next season.

3. Butler - The Bulldogs will again be solid. I think Barlow and Woods will be underrated losses; and I worry about their depth. But Butler has a very solid program. Martin and Wideman should help offset those losses along with NC State transfer Tyler Lewis.

4. Providence - The Friars will take a huge step back if Dunn goes pro early (as I expect he will). Tyler Harris is also expected to leave in addition to seniors Henton and DeRossiers. Dunn is the bridge to a nice group of talent, but he won't be there to help the Friars cross it.

5. St. John's - Even if Jordan and Obekpa both return (unlikely in my opinion), it will be rough going. Lavin absolutely needs to land Diallo or it could be a rough couple of seasons ahead. Johnnies lose Harrison, Branch, Pointer and Greene.

6. Xavier - X loses Dee Davis and Matt Stainbrook. The Musketeers will again be pretty good. They will again be ridiculously short on ballhandlers. Macura needs to take a huge step, and Reynolds needs to mature. X is a likely tournament team, even though I think they will likely be wearing road uniforms in the first round.

7. DePaul - I found it premature when posters talked about the Blue Demons turning the corner in early conference play. This program still stinks.

8. Seton Hall - Need a frontcourt player. Actually, two. And they need Gibbs not to transfer. The Pirates could be an NCAA team if things break right, but they will be thin and lack good coaching.

9. Marquette - MU will likely take the biggest step up next season. I don't buy Wojo as Coach K reincarnated like some, but he has the program pointing in the right direction. I think MU could be a fringe tourney team next season and then a true contender the year after.

10. Creighton - The Blue Jays' recruiting is improved, but the post-Doug McDermott transition will continue.

In terms of NCAA bids, I'd be pleasantly surprised if the league gets six again next season.

More ESPN coverage

I was watching ESPNU Sportscenter this morning looking for our highlights and this is what we got in the pic below.

No highlights, just a shot of the score and i think they said that St. John's lost to Villanova. (granted Zona is also on here and got no highlights but their game was on CBS...).

This isnt Sportscenter, this is ESPNU where the whole hour is dedicated to college. The show started with 7 minutes on Kentucky, and they went back to UK multiple times throughout the show including 2 minutes and 45 seconds where they talked to a former UConn womens player on the undefeated UConn team to understand the mentality of going undefeated.
They had plenty of womens coverage including the broadcast team from the SEC tourney and a current #1 seed couldnt get 10 seconds?

They actually did show highlights of both PC/Butler and SHU/Georgetown but this time a year the focus is all about the bubble and the 1 seed race and they have no coverage of a beatdown of a hot 7 seed that had won 7 of their last 8?

Granted, UK did after all finish the regular season undefeated (if you hadnt heard) against a very good 15-16 Florida team with a 37-23 run.

And Gonzaga. They were down 3 to 14-18 San Francisco in the second half and went on a 22-3 run at home. San Francisco is always a tough out, especially when you're playing at home. The resolve to pull that out? They should be a 1 seed lock after that!

This Year's B.E.T.......

Odd,but first time since it's inception that I'm not looking forward to it.......I know it's a Great time for old friends to reunite and do all the City has to offer. But from a purely BBALL perspective,we have nothing to gain for the first time. If season ended yesterday,we would be a #1 seed, now we still have to run the gauntlet of desperate teams that want our scalp to help their resumes.....I'm sure it will be exciting and enjoyed by all of our fans, and pretty confident we get the Trophy, but I guess I'm just anxious for the NCAA tourney to start ,based on the way we are playing....can't get any better or healthier.

So wouldn't you say that...

...JVP sacrificing his "numbers" this year for the team has hurt any NBA aspirations he might have had at the outset of the season...super commendable by JVP....just don't understand how natural-type resentment and friction is not present between Coach and player in this kind of situation...you would have to think that in most Coach/Player situations it would ...amazing job by both...
