Generators?

There is a standing invite for anyone who wants to come to the next tailgate, I can provide more details before the next game, but if you show up drinks and entertainment on me and my friends. For food I rely on other people and usually just throw them $5-10 bucks. Anyone is welcome - I guarantee you will have a good time.

For reference, the last game we did homemade meatball sandwiches for lunch and NY strip, baked potatoes, and mac and cheese for dinner. The guys who do the food have a couple deep fryers and a smoker as well. We usually do a Thanksgiving tailgate with deep friend turkey and all the fixings for a game around the holidays. I would highly recommend coming to that one.

This has me a little puzzled. How do you have a tailgate and rely on others for food? Does that mean you are actually tailgating with other friends and you handle beverages and they handle food? Or do just see who you end up parked next to in the lot and offer to buy food from them?

So I have season tickets with my sister, we used to tailgate with a group of people we knew but for one reason or another most of them don't come to games anymore (sell tickets) or gave up their tickets. None of my good friends have tickets, they usually pick a couple games and try and get tickets from stubhub, ticketmaster etc. The group I tailgate with now wwere in the spots/area next to us in the parking lot and they sort of just absorbed us into the group a couple years ago. One of the guys has an RV and the other guy has the grill, deep fryer, smoker etc. Usually they plan the tailgate - what food they plan on making - during the week and everyone just volunteers to bring something. Everyone brings their own beer. My sister makes something every week but I just opt to throw money to the 2 main guys who supply most of the food. When I have friends that come we just set up next to them and make it a bigger tailgate. It's gotten to the point now where with friends of friends our tailgate group has become over 30 people. Most of the people in this group are exactly what you would expect from Eagles fans, but they are really nice, blue collar guys.

You tailgate so long that you need both lunch and dinner? Wow.

Jeez. What a day. Do you drink beer the entire time? How can you last from 2 til 11:30 or whenever the game ends?

I never drink in the games. I like to not be drunk and enjoy the game. I drink maybe 8-10 light beers. Maybe a couple shots. I'm barely rocking a buzz.

Having a DJ setup in a tailgating parking lot is a crime against humanity. Why should the people around you have to listen to your "sick beats"?

my thoughts exactly.

extremely low brow, even for an NFL environment

i hope you dont have any VU-identifying paraphernalia in the area when you do this

You clearly haven't been to many football tailgates. If I remember correctly you're a Redskins fan. Can't say I blame you.

If I ever find myself in the CoP in the fall on a sunday when the eagles are playing, I'm hitting up the tailgate. Probably won't even go into the game, would go to the bar
outside the lot and see if the pats were playing.

A great memory from over ten
yrs ago was going to Miami for a pats v
dolphins late seasons monday night
game (It was a year the pats won it all,
but they blew a double digit lead that night on a real odd play where brady threw an interception while being sacked that cost them the game).

Anyway, my wife and I didn't know anyone else down there for the game, so we showed up early with a case of beer and some food and just found a group of people who were pats fans and tail gated with them. No fancy generators or dj booths or anything, but it was a fun time. Not something I would make regular habit out of, but an interesting experience to see how other people live.

Wow. The original ncaaball4.6 handle makes an appearance.

Is that middle paragraph an homage to the late b70? The formatting is uncannily similar.

not a redskins fan in the least, dont really have an nfl team. been to plenty of tailgates, and in the nfl context, mostly low brow --- which is fine, that's part of the experience. dj tables is next level though

i prefer the college tailgate scene, especially boat tailgating. better clientele

My apologies.

Never been to a college football game/tailgate but all my friends who have been say that it is much more fun. As for the boat part - in 2004 I had an offer to go to the Eagles Steelers game in Pittsburgh with a friend from Nova that had family it Pitt with season tickets. I couldn't make it because I had an exam and I missed out on a tailgate on yacht right on the river. The game ended up being a blowout - 27-3 Steelers but I am still upset I missed out on that one.

I should step back a bit - NFL tailgates are a lot of fun.

I prefer the college scene mainly because i think enough fans have that tiny piece of pride in their institution that helps keep the environment at least a little more civil than NFL environs (and with two small kids in tow, that matters). Also feels like there is more camaraderie among the fans vs having one big fan contest for who is the biggest meathead.

also, cant beat this...

The college environment is signficantly better than pro. You can actually bring your kids and have a good time while enjoying a beverage or 2.

You can get a cheap generator for under $300 that will have as much or more power than one of those Hondas but it is going to be loud and heavy. You would do better running directly off a deep cycle battery. Depending on hi setup, he may need an inverter. Probably not, though, if it was running off of DC from the car battery.

I know that one has probably existed, but I can't recall a thread that I've enjoyed reading more than this one. Cap tip.

We did use an inverter. Any more info about running DC off deep cycle battery?

Update: got a nice generator for Home Depot Saturday night.....set up at the game on Sunday and the f*cking 1/4 inch cable connecting the PA to the decks was frayed so there was no audio. No backup cables, we asked around to other tailgates and no one had one or was just unwilling to lend one out. Should have known after that debacle the Eagles game would have been worse.

To top it all off, for some reason the Philly police have a mounted unit and they were patrolling the lot and 3 horses took a huge dump right in front of where my tailgate sets up. That was the highlight of the day for us all.

Are you really not sure the reason why the Philly police have mounted units to patrol the parking lot at the Linc? Did you not read your own thread.

What the hell is a mounted unit going to do? There is plenty of police presence otherwise - patrol cars, bike cops, traffic cops etc.

Apparently mounted police are one of the most effective forms of crowd control available. Considering that you've got large crowds in one place, it makes sense to have horses there.
