I haven't read the basketball board, but I think it's a mistake to get involved with kids before they even have a chance to hit puberty. Over the next 5 years, I expect to make the tournament every year, and make a deep run (E8 or better) once. I think that's basically our ceiling as well. Jay is a great coach, and the best we are going to do at Villanova. There are a lot of schools who would kill to have him on their sidelines. We should be kissing his feet. I don't think there will be a considerable dropoff with the loss of Hilliard and Pinkston, since Pinkston was pretty much a role player last year and I like what our underclassmen are capable of.Given the discussion on the basketball board, when do you think Jay should start recruiting players Hoopcat "points the board to"? 7th Grade? Whenever Jay F'king feeels like it? The womb?
How well do you think Nova hoops will do over the next five years? Whats our realistic ceiling? What is the most likely scenario? Your realistic thoughts on Jay as a coach? Will there be a considerable dropoff as a result of Hilliard and Pinkston's graduation?
Will you push your future son to any specific sports? Do you think your kid will be a great, middle of the pack, or shitty athlete based on you and your wife's athletic prowess? Given concussion concerns, if your son wanted to play football would you let him?
I have very detailed plans about what positions my son will play in various sports but won't push him to anything in particular. I do wish that I made some different sports choices growing up. I think he'll be a middle of the pack to below average athlete if genetics have anything to do with it (not like a fat kid who can't throw a baseball, but he won't be on any varsity teams as a sophomore in a major sport either). I don't want my kid to play football, but forbidding a kid from doing something is a sure fire way to make sure they do it. I doubt he will have interest in the game considering that I have no interest in it and he's not going to grow up around it.
