Both former VU world record holders and Olympians frank Budd and Paul Drayton had been all American H.S. Football players but never played FB at Villanova. Jumbo didn't permit members of his teams to compete in other sports. One exception was Larry Livers whose track eligibility ended during the second semester of his senior year permitting Larry to play on VU's basketball team that year. Larry's grandson, Larry, is a soph runner,

Mike Mayock, captain of our 1954 VU FB team's grandson of the same name was a senior member of this year's VU FB team. The middle Mike Mayock went to BC and played for the Giants. He had been first string QB from Haverford School before Doug Flutie assumed that role. Mike is the NFL recruiting Guru and ND and FB announcer.
In addition to VU teammates 1500, 400, and 1500 meter Olympic championships by Delaney and Jenkins in Australia in 1956, Don Bragg of that team got screwed out of making that Olympic team but continued training for 4 more years. He won the Gold Medal in the Pole Vault at the 1960 Rome Olympocs. He holds forever the world record on a metal pole.
