I am looking forward to the coming months and year of basketball and recruting. It seems like visits will start to come full swing and after reading and thinking a little about what's happening I came up with some thoughts of 2016/2017.
1) With the visit of Dylan Painter, I have thought more about him and I am nutural for Painter. I understand why we are recruting him, good for the system and school. He is also a pretty decent big man option. So, I wouldn't mind if he committed. However, I would not be heart broken if he decided to go elsewhere. Six ten bigs do not grow on trees. I like his skill set, but I am not in love with it. I see majority of his contributions happening in the second half of his career.
2) I am all in on DeAndre Hunter. I like his game and the fit he provides the team. I think he and Spellman would be an awesome combo. Both of them can shoot the ball and stretch the defense out. Hunter is the one player I can actually see ending up being a Curtis Sumpter 2.0. I give a lot of credit to some posters for seeing the potential in Hunter. I honestly didn't see this type of breakthrough from Hunter back in the Winter. He showed signs, but I just didn't see enough of it. Credit to Jay and the staff for staying hot in Hunter's trail. I saw Hunter a couple of games last winter and in all three games he hit multiple threes, he can shoot. Good interview by Shan, btw. In short, Hunter is the guy I want to pair will Spellman.
3) As far for 2017 I really love all of our options, I really think 2017 could be a great class. We are in great shape with so many great prospects. If Hurter redshirts, then he is my top target in 2017. For those who have not seen him, he is the total package. A very good shooter, ball handler, pretty good defender, passer, and a good athelte. He has a very mature game and really plays a very good pace. I also really like Lonnie Walker and Quade Green as well, both of them bring different skill sets to the table. I am pretty much good with Lonnie Walker of Quade Green coming to Nova. His may shock some, but I like Quade Green's game a little more, better shooter and I think a little tougher as well, always liked his game. That being said, if we got Lonnie I would be completely good with it as well. Both are very talented players, can't really go wrong. Both had excellent summers.
4) I love the shape the program is in, currently and in the future. Jay has made the right calls on players, on and off the court. If you take a look at all the prospects we have been involved with, it is truly impressive. It keeps on getting better each year. I am excited for the season to start and the recruting to take shape.
