Bracket Matrix - Near Consensus #1's and #2's right now

Amazing how the bracket matrix is looking right now. I know a lot can change in the next 10 days.

#1 Seeds:
Kentucky - average score 1.00 (Consensus)
Virginia - 1.00 (Consensus)
Nova - 1.06
Duke - 1.07

With this - there are 96 brackets considered - so 384 choices for #1 Seeds and only 13 (just above 3 %) listed any other than these four teams)

#2 Seeds:
Arizona - 1.94
Wisconsin - 1.96
Kansas - 1.99
Gonzaga - 2.03

Again - using the same number of 384 choices for #2 Seeds, only 17 were not these teams.

Saturday's crowd question...

I ran into 3 VU coeds on the beach today.....very nice young ladies. They said they were on Spring Break.
I remember Spellman commenting on how impressed by the crowd at the Gtown game he was...with the kids out of school and King/ Spellman attending, would be nice to have a great crowd, also as a send off to DH,JVP and team in general as they head off to postseason play... with kids gone, will the joint be jumping?

Coach K

Heard a bit of his show on XM tonight. He was discussing seeds in conference tournaments and then for the dance. Every time he said the Power 5 he immediately followed with "and the Big East". Must have said that about 4 times. Love him, hate him, you cannot deny he is a force in college hoops. I am not one to gush over Coach K, but, I am glad to see him group us like that. THE BIG EAST HAS GOT TO DO SOMETHING in the next three weeks. No early outs across the board. This is a pivotal year.

Here is to hoping.

RPI wins

We are 11-1 against the RPI top 40.....that is amazing, and shows you how good the BE was this year. We won the 2nd toughest conference by 4 games. I know the NCAA is the ultimate judge on a season, but years down the road we will look back on this regular season with disbelief. Jay and the staff have done an outstanding job after the disaster 3 years ago. I can admit I was strongly doubting Jay back then and I could not have been more wrong.

Kansas RPI #2?

I know they have the #1 SOS schedule but how are they possibly #2 with 7 losses? Seven!

I know there is a formula behind it but do losses even matter, cmon.
Most of their losses are pretty 'good' and theyhave 7 top 25 RPI wins, but losses include getting thrashed by Temple (on a neutral court - haha). A bad loss at sub 500 KSU (#88). #45 OSU who is 18-12 is not terrible from being top 50 RPI but thats a game the other top teams are winning.

Not to mention they have 4 losses just in the last month and are 5-4 in the last 9 games.

Hopefully they can get 2 more losses in the Big 12 tourney and maybe we can pass them in RPI if we win out.

Bracket Project Matrix

As many of you know, the bracket project matrix is a compilation of a multitude of brackets from around the country. It is updated frequently, at this stage of the season updates are daily. While certainly not scientifically based, I find it more than interesting as the Big Dance approaches. It has been fascinating to watch the Cat's ascension up the matrix as their victories have piled up. Today Nova has pulled even with Kentucky, in that for all the brackets being represented, all show Nova to be a 1 seed. No representation as to overall strength is indicated, but I for one find it impressive that the national media views the Cats in such a favorable light. Now we just need to deliver at MSG.

Go Cats!!

Ref Pat Driscoll

Interesting situation during the game today. I was sitting in the student section when one of the students in my row shouted out, "how much are they paying you " to Pat Driscoll after a foul was called against Villanova. He immediately turned, gave an icy stare and put his index finger to his lips implying tone it down. The next trip to our end of the court and another look at the student who made the comment. The next timeout he come over to the student section and waved the student over for a conversation. After a few words were exchanged, he shook the students hand and he returned to the action. That was the first time I have ever seen that type of an exchange between a student and a ref.

I have always liked Pat Driscoll since he reffed the game vs Pitt in Boston and the game vs Nc in Detroit. He seems like a no BS guy.

Enjoy This...

Enjoy this team. Special group of kids that are having one of the best seasons in this program's fine history.

Pinkston has sacrificed a ton and hasn't complained. Phil Booth is a stud. Hopefully for Darrun and Pinkston we can have a deep tournament run.

Tough to ever duplicate a season like this.

What St. John's Seniors Are Dreaming About This March

This piece is full of gems.

Q: How about your personal legacy?
Harrison: How they talk about like Chris Mullin. I want them to think about us like that too.
Q: Any Big East tournament memories stand out?
Pointer: I lost three times.
Q: Assuming you make the Big Dance, why will this be a dangerous team?
Harrison: 'Cause you can't guard none of us, and if you try to help off … me … Phil will give you 28, Dom would have 25, 10, 7 and 6 … and if you try to help off them, Jamal will have 20-plus and I'll have 20-plus.
Greene: I said this before the season started.
Q: You said what?
Greene: Exactly what he said.
Q: Which one of you in an interview said he would compare himself to Rajon Rondo with a better jump shot?
Greene: High school, I remember that.
