Does anyone this think EW could put up 56 on our Cats? Even on that stupid field. How about this - Montana St a top 20 FCS team 59 - Sacramento St 56. Give me a break. Montana St has been top 20 all season. Again they would be lucky to score 20 against Cats. I can.t wait for the playoffs. Yes you doubters ,this VU team is playoff bound.

#22 Richmond (0-1/3-2) at Albany (1-1/4-1)
What a game for the Spiders last week! With 8 seconds to go and on the road at Liberty, Richmond kicked what it thought was the winning field goal and took a 32-29 lead. In the remaining 8 seconds the Liberty Flames get it to midfield and kick a 60 yard field goal with no time on the clock to tie it and send it into overtime where the Spiders won in the 2nd OT, 46-39. The Spiders went 3-1 in their out-of-conference record with that lone loss to 1-A Virginia, 45-13. Their Sagarin rating is 120 - 3rd best in the CAA. They average 36 ppg (3rd best in the CAA) but must tighten up their defense if they want to be successful in the playoffs giving up 28ppg. That one CAA loss was to New Hampshire at home in the last 19 seconds.
The Great Danes lost their first game of the year last week and their Top 25 ranking in their home loss to JMU. Albany tied the game with a touchdown with 55 seconds to go only to see JMU kick a 34 yard winning field goal with 4 seconds left. The Great Danes are 3-0 in their out-of-conference schedule with 3-2 Colgate still to play on Oct. 25. Albany beat Rhode Island, 37-20 and lost to JMU, 31-28. Their Sagarin rating is 164 for 5th best in the CAA but they were a preseason pick of 10th in the CAA. Albany lost to Richmond last year, 27-10 but then again they lost all their CAA games last year.
If either team wants the playoffs then this is a must "get" game. Thinking the Spiders have the better chance, let's go with a 28-27 Richmond win. Close game for the Spiders as they had 2 weeks to prepare for Liberty and that game took a lot out of them. An overtime game and a travel week = a close game. Richmond hosts URI next and Albany is at Maine.

Elon (0-1/1-4) at Delaware (1-0/3-2)
The Phoenix really struggle scoring points averaging only 12.4 a game. They give up 32 a game and both rank 11th in the CAA. Their out-of-conference record was 1-3 with a loss to 1-ADuke, 52-13.That one win was over 1-AA independent Charlotte, 20-13. Their 1st CAA conference game was a loss to UNH last week, 48-14.
The Blue Hens fell out of the Top 25 wth their home loss to Northeast Sacred Heart,10-7 last week. The Hens finished 2-2 with their out-of-conference schedule with wins over 3-2 Colgate in the last minute and 1-5 Delaware St. Their signature win was at 3-3 JMU in overtime, 30-23. Sagarin has them rated 186 (out of 252 1-A/1-AA teams)for 8th best in the CAA.
Hens to win in Newark, 31-21. Delaware hosts Towson next and Elon hosts Stony Brook.

Towson (0-2/2-4) at JMU (1-2/3-3)
I'm giving up on you Towson and so is Jeff Sagarin. He rates you 216/11th in the CAA. Their out-of-conference record was 2-2 with losses to Northeast Central Connecticut St and 1-A West Virginia. The two wins were over 1-5 Delaware St. and 2-3 NC Central. The two CAA losses were to Maine, 27-24 and Stony Brook, 14-3, both at home.
Sagarin rates JMU 170/6th in the CAA. The Dukes really strugg on the defensive side of the ball giving up 35 ppg. In their out-of-conference schedule they are 2-1 with 3-3 Charlote next week. Their CAA losses are to Villanova and Delaware and got a nice CAA road win over previously undefeated Albany last week.
JMU 31 and Towson 21. Towson plays at Delaware next week and JMU hosts Charlotte.

#10 William & Mary (1-0/4-1) a #4 New Hampshire (2-0/4-1)
Jeff Sagarin rates the Tribe 123 and 4th in the CAA. They have a 3-1 out-of-conference record with wins over 2-3 Lafayette, 2-4 Norfolk St. and 1-4 Hampton. The loss was to 1-A Virginia Tech. The Tribe CAA win was over Stony Brook in overtime, 27-21 after scoring a come-from-behind touchdown with just 25 seconds left in the game. The Tribe have had two weeks to heal and prepare for this matchup with UNH which W&M won, 17-0 last year.
Sagarin rates UNH 93 and 2nd best in the CAA. They can score points with ease averaging 39 a game but give up 28 on defense. Since UNH is only playing an 11 game schedule they finished 2-1 in their out-of-conference schedule with wins over 0-4 Lehigh and 2-1 Dartmouth. The one loss was to 1-A MAC Toledo. UNH has two CAA road wins - Richmond and Elon.
This may be the last chance for a team to beat New Hampshire as their schedule is very favorable for them to run the table. Since Villanova plays at W&M next week (a very tough place to win) is it better for the Tribe to win or lose at UNH? Thoughts, anyone? Since UNH never loses at home, let's give them a 34-28 win ove the Tribe. UNH has a bye nexweek and plays Stony Brook in two weeks. W&M hosts Villanova.

Maine (1-1/2-3) at Stony Brook (1-1/2-4)
Sagarin rates Maine at 183 and 7th in the CAA. They are struggling to score - just 15ppg and give up 25 a game. They play only 11 games this year and finished 1-2 out-of-conference with losses to Northeast Bryant and 1-A B.C. Their one win was over 2-4 Norfolk St. In the CAA they have a nice last minute win at Towson and a home loss to Villanova last week, 41-20. The 2013 CAA conference champs beat Stony Brook last year, 19-14.
Sagarin rates the Seawolves at 191 and 9th in the CAA. They have the top rated defense in the CAA giving up a paltry 13 ppg. Trouble is they only score 13 a game. Out-of-conference they were 1-3 and that should never happen. They lost to Northeast Bryant, 1-A UConn and Big Sky North Dakota. That one win was over a D-2 team. In the CAA they beat Towson last week and lost in OT to W&M.
Flip your coin, guys, on this game. It's heads so Stony Brook wins by a TD, 17-10. Maine hosts Albany on the 18th and the Seawolves travel to Elon.

Rhode Island (0-1/0-5) at #6 Villanova (2-0/4-1)
The Rams are dead last in their offensive production in the CAA averaging only 12 a game. They also are dead last on the other side of the ball giving up 39ppg. Sagarin has them rated last in the CAA and 232 out of 252 in the nation. They lost this game at home last year to Villanova, 45-0. They went 0-4 in out-of-conference play which is a no-no but had two opportunities for wins against Northeast Central Connecticut St. and 1-2 Brown last week, a 20-13 loss. Those two other losses were to 1-A 5-0 Marshall and 5-1 Fordham. Former Defensive Coordinator and Andy Talley assistant (1998-1999) Jim Fleming is the new head coach at URI taking over for another former Andy Talley assistant and back with the Cats - Joe Trainer.
Villanova, according to Jeff Sagarin, is rated 63rd in the nation, 2nd in FCS and 1st in the CAA. They average 41 points a game and give up 18ppg. They are 2-1 outside of the CAA with 3-3 MEAC Morgan St. still to play (Oct. 25th). Oh, by the way, in case you are wondering, 3 time consecutive FCS champion (2011, 2012, 2013) North Dakota St. is rated #1 in the FCS by Sagarin and rated eleven spots ahead of the Cats at 52.
Hopefully, no starter has to play in the 2nd half and we get a chance to see the future of Villanova football in 2015 and 2016 in the 2nd half this weekend. Cats 42 Rams 10.
Villanova is at W&M on the 18th and URI travels to Richmond.

I have Verizon, and I just discovered I have FCS PAC channel 302. What a surprise!!! Anyhow, Villanova-Maine is scheduled to be shown at 12:30 PM tomorrow.

He has had a super year. But vs Maine might be his best game ever.
Career best 3 sacks, 12 total tackles, 5.5 tackles-for-loss, a forced fumble and a pass break up/ WOW.
Congrats to Nova's super LB. He is a junior.

Yesterday was another super game- 12 tackles,3 sacks, and a forced fumble. After every big play Cherry made this season, he rarely celebrates. Just runs back to the huddle and gets ready to do it again.

This Villanovan just may be the best LB in all of FCS.

That means Cats at UConn in 2015. Cats will beat UConn. At Pitt in 2016. At Temple in 2017 and 2018. GO CATS.

For JR it is about his third offensive player of the week for this season. For Cherry it is his first. Many more to come. Congrats to both.

JMU (0-2/2-3) at #23 Albany (1-0/4-0)
Well, I thought sure that the Dukes would defend their home turf and take out the Blue Hens of Delaware last week but lost in overtime 30-23. The Hens, however, did have two weeks to prepare for JMU and it seemed to help. What a wild finish to the game. Delaware scored an 87 yard screen-pass touchdown with just 1:37 left to take a 23-16 lead. JMU answered with a touchdown with just 20 seconds left to send the game into OT. Both teams had missed a PAT earlier in the game which came back to bite each one of them in the butt. JMU won this game last year at home, 40-13.
OK, Great Danes, you are now ranked #23 and after a 1-11 2013 season that is saying something but you haven't beaten a team with a winning record yet. Holy Cross = 2-3. Central Connecticut St. = 2-3. Rhode Island = 0-4 and Columbia = 0-2. Win this Saturday (although JMU has a losing record too) and some might take the fork in the road of respect for Albany.
I'm not there yet as the crystal ball says JMU 28 and Albany 24. JMU plays at home vs Towson next and Albany hosts Richmond next weekend.

#4 New Hampshire (1-0/3-1) at Elon (0-0/1-3)
The number one ranked CAA preseason team vs the last place (#12) picked team. Three wins in-a-row for UNH since their opening loss at 1-A/MAC 3-2 Toledo - 0-4 Lehigh (can't believe that record), at #20 Richmond and last week over 1-1 Ivy Dartmouth, 52-19.
In spite of a 1-3 record the Phoenix haven't played that bad - they weren't going to win at 1-A/ACC 4-1 Duke and they didn't; they played 4-1 NC A&T tuff losing only by 5; they beat an undefeated Charlotte team which is now 3-2 and last week a respectable 31-3 loss to #3 5-0 Coastal Carolina.
The Phoenix lose their first-ever CAA conference game by 14, 35-21 UNH. The Wildcats of UNH host W&M next week and Elon travels to Newark, Delaware to play the Hens.

Stony Brook (0-1/1-4) at Towson (0-1/2-3)
Both teams opened their CAA season this past weekend and both lost their 4th Quarter lead and the game with under a minute to go. The Seawolves hosted William & Mary and scored a touchdown with 1:12 left to take a 21-14 lead. The Tribe came right back at them to score a touchdown with just 25 seconds left to send the game into overtime where the Tribe prevailed, 27-21. Just imagine, a 1-4 team takes the #12 team in the nation to overtime. Welcome to the brutal CAA where 5 or 6 of your league 8 games will be coin-flip decisions. The lone Stony Brook win was over Division 2 American International with losses to 3-1 Bryant, 1-4 1-A/AAC UConn (by only 3), 2-3 Big Sky North Dakota and #12 W&M in OT.
The Tigers took a 24-20 4th Quarter lead with 11:36 left and held it until Maine scored with 52 seconds left for a 27-24 win this past weekend. Still scratching my head how Towson lost to Northeast Central Connecticut St. in Week One, 31-27. After a blow-out at West Virginia (54-0), the Tigers struggled with 1-4 Delaware St. (eventually won this one) and the same with 1-3 NC Central.
Let's go with a 24-21 Towson win this weekend. The Seawolves host Maine next and the Tigers play at JMU on the 11th.

Sacred Heart (3-1) at #24 Delaware (3-1)
The Pioneers were picked 1st in the preseason by their fellow Northeast Conference coaches. Last year they won the conference and went to the playoffs with their 10-2 record where they lost in the 1st round to Fordham, 37-27. This year they beat 0-5 Marist, 2-2 Lafayette, a Division 2 team in Assumption and lost their first game last weekend to 4-0 Patriot Bucknell, 36-20.
The Hens have won three straight since their devastating 62-0 loss to 3-2 1-A/ACC Pitt Panthers in Week One. A little struggle with 1-4 Delaware St., a much bigger struggle and come-from-behind win over 2-2 Colgate and then their big win at JMU in overtime this past weekend.
Going with a 7 point 31-24 win for the Hens this weekend in Newark. Sacred Heart plays 0-4 Robert Morris next and the Blue Hens host Elon.

Brown (0-2) at Rhode Island (0-4)
The big in-state rivalry game between the Ivy Bears and the CAA Rams. The 6-4 2013 Bears won this game at home last year, 31-14. With their 3-4 Ivy record last year the Bears were picked for 6th in the 8 team Ivy League. Brown lost at 2-3 Patriot Georgetown, 17-3 and this past weekend to 2-0 Ivy Harvard, 22-14.
The curse remains on the Rams for firing Joe Trainer with their 38-14 loss at 2-3 Central Connecticut St. this past weekend. Previously, the Rams had lost to 4-0 1-A Marshall, at 4-1 Fordham and their 1st CAA game of the year to Albany.
You should have won last week Ram fans but since you didn't a mediocre Ivy team will beat a stinky CAA team, 21-17. Brown plays 2-3 Patriot Holy Cross next and the Rams will travel to Villanova where Joe Trainer will show you how to play some football.

#20 Richmond (2-2) at Liberty (3-2)
The CAA Spiders vs the Big South Flames. The Flames went 8-4 last year and lost this game in Richmond, 30-21. They dropped out of the Top 25 after their weekend loss to 3-1 MVC Indiana St., 38-19. They opened up at 1-A/ACC 2-2 UNC and played better than expected scoring 29 points on the Heels. Next was a 17-0 win over 1-4 Norfolk St. (MEAC), followed by a 56-31 win over Division 2 Brevard. An impressive win and Top 25 ranking was given to them by handing 3-1 Bryant (Northeast) their 1st loss of the year, 38-21. Don't take the Flames lightly as they almost upset Top 5 Coastal Carolina last year losing by only 3, 55-52 in double overtime.
The Spiders had a bye last week trying to recover from their stunning upset at home to UNH losing in the last 19 seconds, 29-26. A win that would have almost guaranteed them a playoff spot this year. Lose to Liberty Spider fans and you'll have to go 6-1 in your last seven games to sniff the playoffs. This will be a quality win since your other two wins were over a horrible Morehead St., 55-10 and 1-4 Hampton, 42-17.
With two weeks to prepare the Spiders get a 31-28 win over Liberty. The Spiders go to Albany while Liberty travels to former 1-AA and now a transitional 1-A/Sun Belt 1-3 Appalachian State.


#6 Villanova (1-0/3-1) at Maine (1-0/2-2)
What a year the Black Bears had last year. They were picked to finish 8th and ended up winning the conference with a 7-1 record. That lone loss was to New Hampshire who the Black Bears had to play in the 2nd round of the playoffs and lost again, 41-27. They finished with a 10-3 record. This year was also a lack of respect vote being picked for 7th in the 12 team CAA. The Orono Black Bears struggled offensively in their first three games scoring only 10 points in each game. Game One was a 10-6 win over 1-4 Norfolk St.; next was a 13-10 loss to 3-1 Bryant and then a 40-10 loss to 1-A/ACC 3-2 B.C. Last week Maine got it going with a 27-24 come-from-behind victory over Towson in Maryland. In spite of a lot of losses to graduation last year, a lot of talent still remains on the gridiron for Maine and the players know how to win and 21 year coach Jack Cosgrove knows how to coach. Maine beat the Cats last year and the Cats were the preseason favorite to win it all in the CAA in 2013.
The Cats are not healthy. They have already lost starters Tanoh Kpassagnon (DL/6-7/267/SO), Corey Majors (LB/6-1/246/JR) and Trey Johnson (DB/5-11/166/SO) on the defense. Senior LB Joey Harmon is questionnable and on offense Senior RB Austin Medley is out for 6 weeks with a high ankle sprain and our All-American QB John Robertson is no where near 100%. Penn, in game 4, was our first breather of a game that gave us an opportunity to rest some key players in the 2nd half. Came away really impressed with freshman LB Ed Shockley. JR/WR Kevin Gulyas and JR/RB Gary Underwood are getting better with each game and JR/WR Mike Burke is playing better as he gains more confidence with each game. SO/DB Jason Ceneus is solid and Captain Joe Sarnese should get 1st team All American votes. Our Poppy has been a little quiet lately, here's hoping that he has a big game on Saturday.
Crystal Ball sees the Cats with a 28-24 win up in Orono. Cats host Rhode Island on the 11th and Maine is at Stony Brook.

W&M has a bye this week and plays at UNH on October 11.

In games not against Nova ,the Rams have scored 52, 54, and 49 pts. Against VU could not even get one TD Settled for two FGs. Great Nova defense. Granted Rams QB was not 100% but so what? Cats were flying around on defense. Rams will go 11-1 which includes a win over Army in their last game.

Good road win with Roberson passing for 4 TDs and doing some tough and creative running as well. Good D by our Cats too.

On the roster 3 out of the 6 running backs are Seniors. We lose Monangai and Medley. I know Underwood will be back and should be helpful, had a very nice TD against JMU. Javon White has a good resume and got some touches as an underclassman but hasn't done anything this year. Is he injured? Do we have any young guys who aren't on the roster this year who have a chance to make an impact next year? How about at the Receiver position as well? Just curious to see who Robertson will have to work with next year. THANKS!

Doesn't look like it but can we watch online anymore? Does Villanova still have All-Access? I will keep you all posted if I can find anything as well.

Back in the [Big East] day, the kids and I used to get in for free to see 'Cuse, Pitt, VT at Piscataway. Tickets for Saturday night are going for $225. Moral: Be careful what you wish for.

UPDATE: Ticket prices settled back into the $50-55 range before kickoff. Tailgate scene was a mosh pit with black clad students and more than a few adults devolving into pre-civilized behavior. Very intimidating sight. That said, I saw no disrespect toward Michigan fans, although it would be a cold day in July if no incidents were reported. Pasquale, my section's security guard, was reciting the RU chants and cheers throughout the game. I hope he had as good a time at it appeared to me.

Michigan had one physically impressive squad. Highly pro-Wolverine officiating inexplicably flipped RU's way on the last UM drive, leaving the Detroit Free Press decrying the refs. Hoke facially resembles Chris Christie. Maybe he can get a job as Christie's double once he's fired later this week.

#25 Delaware (2-1) at JMU (2-2)
The Hens are coming off a bye week. They entered the Top 25 for the first time this season. Those two wins are over 1-2 Patriot Colgate, 28-25 (a game at home that they won in the last 40 seconds) and pathetic MEAC Delaware St.(0-4). The lone loss was the embarrassment at Pitt, 62-0. The Hens came from behind last year at home to defeat JMU, 29-22.
JMU, under new coach Everett Withers, is a team with a lot of 1-A transfers (their QB was a two year starter at Georgia Tech), a team built around a lot of speed and a team being built for the future (and a possible move up to 1-A). I was very impressed with the potential of this JMU team this past weekend. Besides Villanova, the Dukes lost to 1-A/Big 10 Maryland, 52-7 and has wins over Lehigh and St. Francis of Pa.
In spite of the extra week of preparation for coach Brock and his Hens, JMU should win 38-27. Next up for Delaware is Sacred Heart at home and for JMU - Albany on the road.

#12 William & Mary (3-1) at Stony Brook (1-3)
Why is W&M's schedule rated 230 out of 252? Outside of 1-A ACC Virginia Tech, a 34-9 loss, the Tribe has played 1-3 Hampton, 0-4 Norfolk St. and 1-2 Lafayette - all double digit wins. Still, #230 seems a little out-of-whack as Patriot Lafayette is not that bad of a team.
I'm very disappointed in you, Stony Brook Seawolves. You had a chance to beat a Big Sky team last week (a conference we always battle with for bragging rights as the best in 1-AA) in 1-2 North Dakota and you blew it scoring only 3 stinking points and lost, 13-3. We (the Conference) needed that win! How do you almost beat 1-A UConn (only losing by 3) but then lose to a Northeast Conference team in Bryant? The Seawolves only win is over a Division 2 team.
The Tribe comes North and grabs a 24-17 win over the Seawolves. After a bye week, the Tribe travels to UNH on October 11 and Stony Brook is at Towson next week.

Maine (1-2) at Towson (2-2)
The Black Bears went to Boston last week and played Steve Adazzio's BC Eagles and lost, 40-10. Like Stony Brook, the Bears also lost to 3-1 Bryant, 13-10. Their lone win was over 0-4 Norfolk St., 10-6.
The Towson Tigers are definitely in a rebuilding year after going to the Championship game last year (a 35-7 loss to North Dakota St.). Their first game of the 2014 season was a 31-27 loss to 1-3 Northeast Central Connecticut St. Next was a 54-0 blow-out by 1-A/Big 12 West Virginia (2-2). Next was a come-from-behind win over 0-4 MEAC Delaware St.and last week a win over 1-3 MEAC NC Central, 31-20.
If Maine can score more than 10 points maybe they can win this game. On second thought, how about a Tiger win, 20-17.
Maine hosts Villanova next and Towson travels to Stony Brook next weekend.

Columbia (0-1) at #24 Albany (3-0)
The Ivy League Lions opened up their 2014 campaign with a 49-7 loss vs 3-1 Fordham last week. They were picked dead-last in the preseason coaches poll due to their 0-10 season in 2013.
No doubt Albany is the surprise team in the CAA this year and in FCS football starting out 3-0 after winning just one game last year (1-11) and now being ranked in the Top 25! The Great Danes barely beat 2-2 Patriot Holy Cross in Week One, 14-13. Then it was a win over 1-3 Northeast Central Connecticut St. (their lone win is over Towson), 19-0. Last week the Great Danes got their 1st CAA win since joining the conference in 2013 with a 37-20 win over Rhode Island.
What a match-up in Albany, New York this weekend - two teams that won a total of one game out of 22 last year.Anyway,
the Great Danes get win #4 with a 35-10 win over the Lions. Columbia plays Princeton next and Albany has JMU at home.

Elon (1-2) at #3 Coastal Carolina (4-0)
The Phoenix took their 1-7 SoCon record (2-10 overall) and enrolled in the CAA where they were picked to finish last of the 12 teams in the CAA for 2014. New conference, new head coach, let's give them a little time. One thing is certain - Coastal won't wait. Elon got a nice little win last week over undefeated Charlotte, 20-13. Their two losses are to 1-A/ACC Duke (4-0) and 3-1 MEAC NC A&T, 17-12.
The Chanticleers, a 50 cent word for a bunch of Cocks, went to the playoffs last year going 2-1 with a big win at Montana, 42-35. They lost in the Quarterfinals to the eventual champion, North Dakota St. They are headed to the playoffs again this year as the Big South champion. Their wins this year are not much to brag about - at The 0-3 Citadel, 31-16, at 3-1 NC A&T, 31-30, 2-2 South Carolina St., 30-3 and 0-3 Florida A&M, 48-3.
Coastal 31 Elon 14. Elon hosts UNH next week and Coastal travels to Furman which may be the only chance for the Chanticleers to lose a game this year. Hope the Committee remembers their joke of a schedule come playoff time.

Dartmouth (1-0) at #4New Hampshire (2-1)
The Big Green opened their season last week with a 35-25 win over 1-3 Northeast Central Connecticut State. With their 6-4 2013 record they are a preseason pick for 3rd in the Ivy League behind Princeton and Harvard.
The UNH Wildcats scored a come-from-behind touchdown with just 19 seconds left (sound familiar Villanova fans?) to beat Richmond, 29-26. They also beat 0-3 Patriot Lehigh, 45-27 but lost to 1-A MAC 2-2 Toledo, 54-20.

See what happens Ram fans when you fire Joe Trainer? An 0-3 curse! Your loss is Villanova's gain. OK, you had no chance to beat 4-0 1-A Marshall in Week One. Nor did you have a chance to beat a Top 20 1-AA team in Fordham. But a home game against a winless 2013 CAA team in Albany that you beat last year - ah, if not a win, a better showing than a 37-20 loss certainly was necessary.
The Blue Devils play their 3rd CAA team this year after splitting between Albany (a 19-0 loss) and Towson (a 31-27 win). 2-2
Patriot Holy Cross has a 20-7 win over Northeast CC St. and last week Ivy Dartmouth got a 10 point win over CC St.
The curse comes to an end Ram fans with your 28-24 win on Saturday. Rhode Island plays Ivy rival Brown next week.

#6 Villanova (2-1) at Penn (0-1)
The game is at historic Franklin Field, the oldest stadium in football and has the oldest stadium scoreboard (1895). The Al Bagnoli era will come to an end after this season - his 23rd at Penn. A class guy and a great coach - he will leave as the winningest coach in Penn's 135 year football history. He is just one of six coaches in FCS history to record 200 career wins
(of course, our own Andy Talley is one of those six but this is all about Coach Bagnoli). He is the only Ivy coach to win 9 outright Ivy titles. His games against Villanova are usually epic battles. The Quakers are picked a preseason 4th in the Ivy this year. They opened up in Florida playing 2-1 Jacksonville last week and had a 31-19 lead after 3 quarters. Unfortunately, the Dolphins scored a TD with 39 seconds left to secure a 34-31 win.
The Parents Weekend Crowd and almost a full house was treated to an offensive fireworks show on the Mainline last week.
What a game! The game ball on offense should go to QB John Robertson, who was chosen as the Offensive Player of the Week in the CAA for the 2nd time, who threw for a career-high 337 yards and career best 4 aerial touchdowns in spite of a broken bone in his hand. Robertson had plenty of help with Kevin Monangai scoring 2 touchdowns, one on a 62 yard sprint and amassed over 100 yards rushing. Earnest Pettway (6-4 SR/TE) scored 2 touchdowns and Gary Underwood (JR/RB) scored a touchdown on a great shovel-pass play by Robertson. Credit offensive coordinator Sam Venuto for the design and call! On defense (SR/DB) Joe Sarnese gets the game ball with his two interceptions which broke the back of JMU. One bad thing happened in the game. (SO/DL) Tanoh Kpassagnon (6-07/265) is probably lost for the season with a knee injury. He was recruited on potential and we started to see glimses of it in his limited time playing last year but was turning into a stud defender for us this year - so quick! What a big, big loss. I was really excited about our defense after the first two games but after game two and game three one has to just as excited about our offense having scored 99 points in our last two games.
Well, the Cats won this game last year on Lancaster Avenue, 35-6. Look for them to win down on 33rd and South St. this year, 42-14. We would like to thank the football gods for Coach Bagnoli - a real gentleman and credit to the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and FCS football!
Penn plays at Dartmouth next week and at Fordham in two weeks. Cats go up to Orono, Maine on the 4th.

A dime a dozen!

What else is new?

The website released the schedule for the year and although they have strengthened the non-conference portion of the schedule quite a bit, they certainly didn't do much to generate any kind of on-campus atmosphere this season.

The first home game isn't until December 14th when students are in the middle of exams and then the next five home games take place while the students are on holiday break! If they were even planning on being there at all, the band and cheerleaders and dance squad would be entertaining a lot more empty seats than even they are used to.

The November schedule has them in Chattanooga, out to California and back to Florida before an early December bus trip to Providence. A very uninviting trip to St. Joes, then the string of six straight at home before the full Big East schedule kicks in.

The three-day Florida tournament has us with a slight chance to play UConn on day three, but I am sure Geno will have his way to avoid that happening.

A solid core returning with some promising help arriving, but some big shoes to fill in replacing Devon's points, assists and defense.
