Investment Idea Thread

There is a decent amount of financial intelligence on this newgroup. Interested to see if we can get a sporadic investment idea thread going.

Before i start, the following jokes are off limits because they are so telegraphed:
Market at 14k
Rita's Franchises
Stealing Facebook from Finkelweiner
JC Penney private equity
(all other tjc financial success stories are on the table though)

As for me:
Loaded some cash into ETW today in a tax free IRA as a long term play.
Also interested in NLY, but a little concerned as the curve is sure to flatten.

From a more pedestrian perspective, I like multifamily investment properties as the homeownership rate is sure to plummet in the coming decade.

What are you more astute guys involved in these days?
Anything piquing your interest that you haven't pulled the trigger on yet?

Family Leave

When I was a single man with no children, I could often be found ranting about the inequity of companies offering paid family leave (maternity/paternity), while not offering an identical number of paid days off for non-parents who choose to say, immerse themselves in a language in a foreign country for two months...or learn to play a musical instrument....etc.

Of course, now I have one child and another coming any day, so I'm not as likely to be heard spouting off about this inequity, but I still do feel the same way deep down.

So, I guess my question is, why do company's offer dissimilar benefits to two identically qualified workers? Should a company be in the business of determining which non-work related endeavors are worthy of paid time off?

Coaching Shelf Life

At this point in time there are a number of senior coaches at significant programs against whom we compete for recruits.
Some of these folks are shopworn and scandle ridden. Others are approacing potential retirement.
A high school player being recruited is meeting a coach as many as 6 years from the end of college elligibility.

Therfore : How many years do you think the following coaches will stick around?

UNC-Williams
Syracuse-Boeheim
Louisville-Pitino
Duke- Coach K

Anyone else whose loss would be a great gain for Villanova?

I expect Self and Calipari to be around for a while.

OT: The USGA can go pound sand...

Not sure if any of you are watching, but they are messing with Dustin Johnson BIG TIME....the dumbest rule in golf is a penalty if the ball moves on the green...Lowry got jobbed yesterday. Today,Johnson's ball moved,he calls in the head of rules and the guy deems that Johnson didn't make it move and let him play the ball.......NOW,the Geniuses of the USGA want to "review" it after the round,so neither Johnson or any of his competitors know what the actual score is,they are going to review again AFTER the round.
They f....ed him at Whistling Straits, now they are doing it again. If I was DJ,I'd tell him that he didn't cause the ball to move,END OF STORY.
All the PROS that have finished are slamming the USGA!

Holland Tunnel Gun Bust

A truck carrying multiple loaded assault rifles, handguns, knives, body armor, and night vision goggles was stopped at the entrance to the holland tunnel. Apparently they were just "gun enthusiasts" from the SoP who had no idea that you can't bring guns into the CoDB. Their truck was a bit conspicuous:

I personally love these "people trying to bring weapons into CoDB and getting arrested" stories. There was one a few years ago where some tourist from Tennessee tried to bring a handgun to the 9/11 museum, got caught, and went to jail over it.

NBA Finals

Wow. What a great series thus far. Some real nailbiters. Can't wait to hear how the narrative completely reverses now in typical moronic fashion.

The only thing I know for sure, besides Cleveland not being able to win at Oracle, is they need to send Kevin Love home. That dude makes Enes Kanter and Jahlil Okafor blush on the defensive end. Stinks.
