Yup, can't see Conor going up to take on that buzz-saw

So who gets the next shot at LW?

Winner of Pettis-Alvarez? Yuk

I guess Ferguson takes on Dariush for the next shot? Love El Cucuy, but needs another big win.

Wish Khabib would stay healthy. Feed him Nate, if he doesn't test positive for something (-400 YES)

Ferguson for a title shot sounds right. Tho Pettis probably gets it if he wins.

I think Ferg needs one more win. A bigger win. He and Dariush on double deck. But he is the most talented fighter in that division besides RDA and Khabib

I agree, not saying he wouldnt, but that's the next match-up to make. Actually makes perfect sense. Ferg needs to beat another top 10 guy to warrant a shot. Doubt Ufc would want Dariush getting a shot anytime soon so let Cucuy take him out while padding his resume with a real good W.

Nate Diaz administers a beatdown to Michael Johnson, who incorrectly claimed he was the fastest lightweight prior to the fight and then cant avoid a single punch that Diaz threw. Not sure how all three judges have Johnson a round (the first?). The taunting in round two was over the top.

Reebok and UFC need to both agree that nobody is benefiting from their deal. Horrible design, horrible for fighters.

Overeem KO dos santos after a round of dancing.

Dos Anjos gives a savage beating to a hot fighter. Sweet Jesus.

Fantastic card.

Michael Johnson's game plan was almost as bad as Rousey's against Holm. Almost. Nothing is that as bad as that. It should've taken Johnson one round to figure out Diaz's size and reach might be a problem in a striking-only contest. Can't believe he never even attempted to shoot for any takedowns.

I never get this correlation.

Have one NASCAR friend. He doesn't like MMA.

The correlation is not that they necessarily have overlapping fan bases. The correlation is that it is lowbrow entertainment for meatheads and rednecks.

It doesn't surprise me that you have a friend who is a NASCAR fan. You probably have friends that are fans of professional wrestling too.

I would not call it high brow but I wouldn't call it low brow either. It is sport that appeals to people on an intellectual level more than on some visceral level. People don't watch it in hopes of carnage/violence. UFC is like porn. It appeals to people's baser instincts. You really can't say that about basketball.

I am not a huge fan of watching sports generally. I have no interest in wasting time watching pro sports. I like college basketball and especially Villanova because I have a real rooting interest.

This is firmly in "if you don't like it, don't read it" territory for you. Unless you would like to offer some enlightened opinions on other topics that you have no clue about. Maybe "Jay needs to recruit tall guys" would be a good jumping off point for you.

You can't have an opinion that meth is trashy unless you use it? No opinion of abortion unless you've had one? Dumb argument.

Condit 48-47.

I don't mind Lawler winning though. Good dude. Exciting fighter. Looks to take opponent's head off. That 5th round was about as good as it gets.

Judging and scoring needs to change in the UFC. The 10-pt scoring is nonsense for a 3 or 5 round fight.

Agree about Lawler being fun to watch and a good dude, but Condit is an even better dude and pretty clear won rounds 1, 3, 4. The punch stats werent even close. I know you cant go by that solely but we are talking a wipeout in terms of strikes thrown and landed. It's kinda like Tyson being patient and judicious but connecting on a few haymakers and getting a decision over a guy who is landing 3-4 times more than he is in every round. Its oohs and ahhs the few times a dude lands a big punch but those cant over-ride him getting punched and kicked over and over and over again. Lawler was out-worked in every round but gets 2 and 5 because he hurt Condit in those rounds. He didnt hurt him in the other 3 rounds so he doesnt win those rounds while getting outworked in each. And it's not like Condit didnt also hurt Lawler as well. We arent talking about Paulie Malignaggi types of landed shots. Fight wasnt hard to score at all.

IMO they kind of have to give more weight to those monster punches. If you're just landing unthreatening jabs and leg kicks (they're just foreplay), are you really getting closer to the ultimate goal of the fight... ending the fight before time runs out?

ND, have you watched the fight? Condit hurt Lawler on more than one occasion, as I said we arent just talking about jabbing here. And in the rounds Lawler DID win (2 and 5) it's because of some of the heavy shots he landed in those rounds. Those big shots overcame the good work Condit otherwise did in those 2 rounds. In the other 3 rounds Lawler didnt hurt Condit and was clearly outworked. My book had Condit at -600 to win going into Round 5. The shops felt Condit was up 3-1.

You must have missed where I said Condit 48-47

I haven't seen it yet. What you're saying seems to be consistent with what most people saw though.

I thought Lawler lost to Hendricks as well in the fight he won the belt but that result was closer than this one, in my mind, because Hendricks tried to employ a good bit of stalling/wet blanket tactics. And the UFC doesn't want those guys as their champs. They want guys like Lawler as their champ. Guys who get in wars and fight with their ears and lips falling off. In the UFC's heart of hearts they know Condit would've dumped that title to Hendricks because he can't deal with his wrestling. They don't want Hendricks as their champ. Aside from his making weight issues he became a boring fighter once he got the title. He was knocking cats out on his rise but once he got the strap he turned boring and conservative.

The rules for judging are so wishy washy that way more fights are toss ups than should be. Judges are from the athletic commission. Not sure how they're assigned but I doubt the UFC has any day in it. Questionable decisions probably just come from the types of judges picked - if they value a certain style or tactic more than another then it might flip the result from what it appears.

I don't know how these guys go five rounds and still have anything left at the end.

Exactly, judges aren't employed by the UFC.

The problem is they aren't experienced fighters themselves. Often some old head that was taught how to score a fight in some classes or something. Judges should be ex fighters, refs, etc

10 point scoring doesn't help. If there are a couple rounds where the judges are off in boxing, not a huge deal as there are so many rounds it won't have nearly as much of an impact. If there is one controversial round in an MMA fight like there so often is, the wrong guy often gets his hand raised. See GSP-Hendricks... Hendricks-Lawler... then Lawler - Condit the other night. Also Fighter A can win one round easily with the other two round being toss-ups. Two of the judges give Fighter B the toss-up rounds and B ends up winning. The way the rules are, it's all fair, but still BS.

Fights should be judged like the old Pride days. No 10-9 stuff. Simply looking at the fight as a whole and asking "Who won that fight?".
