I've been following Joseph to see how he does at first this year. I hope, for his sake, that he can make the transition.

Just get Howard outta here. Play Joseph at first, I don't care. He can't be any worse in the field. Or at the plate. Not possible.

I saw Randolph was put on the DL in Class A yesterday but haven't see you anything else. Any word on that?

Asher is one of those guys who looks great in the minors and can't pitch in the bigs.

Perkins should be up. Tmrw. Why the hell not?!

So they bring Williams up later this month? Not sure service time implications but I feel like it's June 10th or something. Send Burress (sp? on all these guys) down.

Bring Joseph up...send Lough down? I feel like Borjeus is one of the worst hitters I've ever seen but his defense has legit saved them 3/4 games this year.

Guessing they'll try to keep Goeddel up all year but at a certain point if the starting pitching holds up and the bullpen remains passable (I feel a reversion coming on soon) you've got to make sure these guys get a shot at sticking around.

For a team this young with so many lively personalities where the positive "vibe" has been discussed quite a bit already, a season full of competitive pitching and youthful infusions of talent later in the season could really set the table for next year. Have them all go through growing pains together and start to build another nucleus that can compete for 5 or 6 years.

If they get league average production from LF & 1b they could finish around .500.

I'd keep Bourjos up just for his D. Send Lough down. Let's see if Perkins can hack it. He can't be any worse. If not - you know Williams is coming soon.

Joseph hit his 6th HR today. He is 9-15 over last four. Leads International League in BA/Slug%.

He currently has a .392/.417/.709 slash line.

Dylan Cozens hit his 7th HR for Rwading.

Alfaro is back from his oblique injury.

Ruf hit some balls hard today but he's just not swinging a good bat. The fact that he can't outplay Howard says it all. I'm thinking Joseph might get a call before the end of the month? He does them no good in minors. He's not a prospect and doesn't need regular ABs etc. If he feels comfortable enough at 1B you call him up to play vs lefties and then even give him chances vs righties. Also he could be a guy with pop off the bench late. I see no reason why this doesn't happen.

Joseph isn't considered a prospect anymore because of the injuries/concussions, but he's still only 24. At one time he was considered to have a good bat. Now that taking foul balls off the face has been removed, maybe he can find himself again. His splits this year have been comparable.

He'll probably be up at some point, but I think next year you might see a Joseph/Knapp platoon at 1B.

Can't get to excited about any guy putting together a couple of good weeks in the minors. Worst thing the Phillies could do now is yo-yoing guys up and down from Lehigh to Phila. while ignoring the 25 million dollar albatross
Let things play out till at least mid July at the earliest, later if the team is still in contention.

What do you do with Asche when he returns?
System overloaded with catching prospects, do you keep them all, convert some to play 1b or lf, trade ?

Just want the young guys to prove themselves for at least a year at AAA, no desire to get engaged in the hype around another Dom Brown.

This isn't 2008 anymore. Pro sports has become a young man's game, no need to let guys sit in minors until they are 23-24 anymore.

Reading banged out 17 hits today in a 9-0 win. Ben Lively improved to (5-0, 1.80) with six shutout innings. Dylan Cozens slammed his 8th HR. Crawford only batting .269, but his 25 walks has his OB% at .405.

Why the f do they essentially use their AA team as their AAA club? Do they not respect the International League?
Is that not common place all throughout baseball? AAA is littered with guys who are AAAA players, career minor leaguers, and prospects right before they are called up to the big leagues. AA is usually regarded as the more serious league I always thought? Plus nowadays everyone in AA can throw mid 90s so there is not a huge jump in pitch speed at each level.

The general consensus is that the most talented minor league teams are in AA. I would say most top prospects (with exceptions) spend a full year in AA.

AAA has too many Michael Martinezes and Chase D'arnauds to be considered the best test for prospects.

Just think about what it takes to be a AAA left handed pitcher. You have to really suck to be a lefty pitcher in AAA.

AAA mostly has your cup of coffee major league players. They get called up when injuries occur but are over the hill and not real prospects. Basically time for those types to move on with their lives.

I think some of it has to do with age/experience, too. Their top 3 pitching prospects are at AAA (Thompson, Appel, Efflin).

Cozens hot his 9th HR, 4th in 5 games today. Quinn notched his 4th triple. Nick Pivetta (3-2, 3.86) grabbed the W with a 6-inning, 3-hit, 1 ER, 7 K day.

On a down note Crawford went 0-5 and made his 7th error.

This is probably a bb2n, but I saw couzens play at Williamsport a few years ago. He was a man among boys then, and it looks like he is still holding his own.

Seems like AAA is slightly more valued for starting pitching prospects. You'll get some professional ABs from guys who have been in the bigs, know how to work a count/pitcher, have seen good stuff before, want to make a name and get back up.

But as Kenny pointed out, you're not likely to see any critical mass of good pitching in AAA, so why have top hitting prospects spend time there? Not enough good relievers or starters to realistically assess what a guy can do in real games. Maybe a few ABs per week that help with development. Too tempting (and often planned) at the big league level to shift "fallen star" or developing pitching prospects from the rotation to the bullpen and back again rather than send back to AAA, they serve a purpose, harder to juggle everyday players that way, especially when more roster spots usually go to situational relief.
