Anyone Else Feel This Way?

It's been great basking in the glow of our NC. Everyone coming up to you wanting to talk about the game and shot. But I'm getting a little sick and tired of the win being characterized as some type of last second miracle. If that shot from the Butler kid had gone in 5 years ago against Duke, that would have been a miraculous win. But our win was different. We were the best team in the country this year - an we proved it.

- We were up 10 points against Carolina with 4 minutes to go. It took 2 lucky 3-pointers for THEM to get back into the game. We should have never even been in that position. And even if Kris' shot missed, we were going to OT.

- We wiped out our other opponent in the Final Four but the widest margin of victory in history. We made a fellow 2 seed from the Big 12 look like a lower-echelon Ivy.

- We beat the overall #1 seed in the entire tournament - and I'm not sure we were ever even threatened in that game.

- We blew out a game Miami team in the S16. I actually watched them play a few times this year -- they were a decent team. We took their will from them.

My point is, there seems to be a prevailing thought out there that we were a Cinderella that won the NC on a miracle shot. It kinda makes me mad. We were so far and away the best team in the country, it's ridiculous.

Choking my way through OK game...ER

We had barely stepped foot into the pre-game party in the event center by the NRG Center and I took my first bite of chicken burrito and knew immediately I would be going to the ER. I have had a condition where my esophogus tightens up (Eosinophilic esophagitis "EoE") and on most occasions I can manage to get food through, but unfortunately this time it wasn't going through and nothing could get past (water, saliva or any other food for that matter). I made the decision to just try to relax prior to the game and get through the OK game, knowing that an endoscopy would be needed afterward. I spent the next 3 hours in pain as I had to force myself to dry heave about 15min into a bag in order to get the saliva build up out of my system. I got through the thrashing of OK and then immediately headed to Houston Memorial .

The Houston Memorial visit was one of the worst experiences of my life. Normally during a time where ‘food bola’ is lodged, you are put under through the duration while they scope you and either pull the food out or push it into your stomach. They greatly underestimated the amount of sedation I needed and I woke to what I imagine it would feel like being on a roofie, where I could hear the doctors and nurses talking, but couldn’t move or talk. I heard them mentioning signs of esophongial cancer, taking biopsies, dialating etc and it was one of the most painful experiences being awake while tubes were down my throat to the point of constant gagging. Fortunately, I had the support of two great friends and board members (VU1995, Anthony and Nova2353, Frank) who stayed with me to the painful hour of 4:30am instead of celebrating at the Sonasta, for which I am forever grateful.

I was in a lot of pain and really struggled to breathe in the days and weeks following. After the fantastic championship game, I had to fly to the UK for 1.5 weeks feeling very much under the weather and having to miss all the parade celebrations, but knowing nothing could have been better than sitting in row 19 center court for that final shot and then getting down courtside and having a front row seat of Jenkins picking up his mother after the shot. It took several weeks for me to be able to go up a flight of steps without being completely winded (I am an avid triathlete in the Clydesdale division for guys over 225 lbs) and wondered if I had done serious damage. I also had a concern in the back of my mind that the biopsies would come back with some horrible news.

As it turned out, due to the sustained choking during the OK game, the GI said I incurred aspiration pneumonia, which took weeks to recover from. I evidently could have done some serious damage, but all is ok now and I am on proton inhibitor for the GI condition.

The greatest weekend of my life, was a bit tarnished by this episode, but I thank many of you for your concern and trust I will be staying away from the buffet table in Phoenix!

Jay Wright - NCAA HoF - What will it take?

We all know Jay Wright is now forever part of Villanova lore but I was curious on what folks think it will take for him to become a HoF coach? His resume right now is on the cusp IMO when I perused the list of HoF coaches. Certainly the NCAA National Championship goes a long way. He is 24 wins from 500 with 20+ win seasons practically a given at this point.

I think this may play in with Wright's NBA decision. I could see him giving Villanova 2-4 more great years. Perhaps another deep tournament run or two and get around 550 wins and solidify his spot in College basketball lore and then give the NBA a shake before he is 60. That probably would align with Baker getting 2-4 years of HC experience and being a great option for our next HC. I could get behind this totally made up plan :)

Defend that title!

Okay, so now that it looks almost certain that Josh Hart is returning, we have a very good chance of repeating. I know there are other very good teams, like Kentucky, MSU, even Xavier, but none of them worry me as much as Duke. They are loaded:

- 4 McD's AA (Two of them are special in Giles and Tatum, plus a PG and the big who just signed)
- Grayson Allen
- Amile Jefferson
- Luke Kennard isn't bad coming off the bench

That will be the team to beat. Our guys:

- Hart
- Jenkins
- Brunson
- Bridges
- Booth
- Spellman
- Paschall
- Reynolds
- Donte, Delaney, etc.

Wow, we are loaded as well. I think those are your two best teams right there. X factor - Does Paschall blow up and become a stud? Is Spellman ready to be a big contributor?

It's only May 20th, but this off season has a whole different feel because our guys proved it this past season. We don't have to wonder if we can get past the second round any longer. We absolutely have a chance to repeat.

Way, Way OT....wow...

...I just had an attractive 22 year old gal came into my business to pay for services...she just graduated Penn State and comes from an affluent family in Mendham, NJ...her Dad had given her a blank check to pay...I gave her a pen and told her the amount due...she then proceeded to stare at the check without writing...I had no idea what was going on...she then says as she turned bright red...."I don't know how to fill this out, can you do it for me"....I did...welcome to 2016....wow...
